Was it to keep her from hurting herself or were they really worried about themselves? I mean if she was seriously about to cut herself a tazer is the quickest way to stop it.

Without more info I'm not sure what would be appropriate. Tazing seems pretty harsh though...

I guess when we all were kids and got pissed, packed our backpacks full of cool shit and told our parents we were running away they should have called the cops too huh?

An 8 year old with a paring knife is not harmless. Had the girl successfully killed herself, the cops would be facing a suit as well..
