  • Good red light camera article about Arlington

I remember reading that the tax collector was going to start enforcing the 'no registration' penalty earlier, but I didn't realize it fell through, so tarrant county is still good to go.

Summary: Councilman wants to get rid of red light cameras; tax collector starts putting 'in god we trust' on envelopes, then tells cities "fuck you, I'm not doing your dirty work for you".

I've got about 6-7 of em out there, city of Dallas is pretty aggressive, sending me nasty letters, talking about putting on my credit, etc.

Oh really? That 2007 law is quoted as follows:

Texas Transportation Code, Title 7, Subtitle I, Sec. 707.003(h): "A local authority or the person with which the local authority contracts for the administration and enforcement of a photographic traffic signal enforcement system may not provide information about a civil penalty imposed under this chapter to a credit bureau, as defined by Section 392.001, Finance Code."

The Arlington Police Department’s website states that unpaid violations are sent to a collection agency after two notices. However, a state law adopted in 2007 prohibits those civil penalties from being reported to a credit bureau.

The City Attorney’s office said Arlington has the option to report delinquent fees to credit bureaus because its contract with the red light camera vendor was entered into prior to the law’s passage. However, that is not currently being practiced.

Has any city in Texas with red light cameras reported scofflaws to credit bureaus?

I couldn't care less about the credit bureau, I'm worried about registering my car. As long as that isn't interfered with, let them report it. A dispute should solve the 5 point hit you take from these clowns.

I saw a guy at that corner of 121 and Custer road throwing wet paper at the red light camera. He had a home depot bucket full of what looked like water and paper. I watched him throw 5 or 6 of these homemade spitballs until he covered the whole camera. It was pretty funny to see.

Wouldn't a paintball gun work better? Or maybe a burning tire like the Brits use.

This crap is getting out of hand. My Mom was telling me her friend got a speeding ticket in the mail a couple weeks ago in Ft Collins, Co. Guess they have some van that drives around and has a camera and radar or something and can mail fines to people caught speeding. WTH, that sounds totally illegal!

                            Fucking A...

                            General Radar/Red Light Tickets

Camera Radar/Red Light tickets are processed through the Fort Collins Municipal Court Clerk's Office

Based on the current state law, there are no points assessed on your drivers license for Camera Radar/Red Light tickets unless your alleged speed is 25 miles or more over the speed limit. If your speed was in excess of 25 miles over the speed limit, you will be cited with a 6 point speeding ticket and given an arraignment date to appear in court. A court appearance is mandatory for six-point speeding tickets.

The current process is as follows:

Photos are sent with the first notice of your summons and complaint by regular mail.
If you fail to pay or appear by the "respond by" date listed in that notice, a second notice may be sent by regular mail.
If you fail to respond, you may be personally served by a Certified Peace Officer with a summons and complaint which will include an arraignment date.
If you plead guilty or are found guilty after such service, a minimum $35 service cost will be assessed, in addition to any fines or other costs.
If you wish to contest the service charge, you must come to the Municipal Court to set a Hearing Date.

I still remember showing up to city hall to contest one in Dallas. That place was like a ghost town. Those folks looked at me like they hadn't seen anyone contest a ticket, ever. They quickly dismissed it as if to send me back to the strange dimension I came from, where fear of the boogie man doesn't exist.
