My grandparents used to do what they call a one tanker. In the morning they would get in the car and pick a direction and go. When they hit half a tank, they would stop and see what was around to do, after that they’d drive home on the other half of the tank. They never went the same way twice.
I think my wife and I need to start doing that.

Deer hunting every year. This is the most stressfull time of year for me but after this month things slow down and i go sit in a tree a few hours each night watching the sun go down.

At least a couple of times a year. Though I take my phone, I just don't pay much attention to it. Most of these road trip threads I post have been done with little to no planning aside from an outline of the high points I want to see, and I inevitably come across more while driving. The Florida trip for instance, I left less than 24 hours after I decided I was going. Hell, I've been thinking about buying a one way ticket to Europe in the next month and just riding the rails over there for a few months and seeing the entire continent.

I haven't in a long time. The last time was out of rage, resulted in driving half way across the country, and ultimately resigning from the business I co-founded. It usually happens when I'm past the point of fried and go into heavy-reflection-change-is-coming mode.

I should probably bug out before that happens, but I don't. I don't have any hobbies or distractions right now, everything is school focused. So I keep it on lock, but the pressure builds.

If I wasn't so tied to work, I'd leave tomorrow. I need a getaway something fierce.

The biggest problem in my life, I don't know how to vacation or relax/unplug. When I do its amazing, but I never think to do it.

I take my bicycle and go for a ride. At the end, I'm tired, no one can reach me while I'm out and I have time to work through things.

I leave next friday for my annual camping/fishing trip to Wyoming. It's my time to unwind. Cell towers unfortunately seem to be encroaching though. Last year my brother-in-laws cell phone accidentally got left on and rang at the campsite. We usually turn them off because we don't get signal anyway. I think we'll just let everyone keep believing there's no signal!

way too many times back in the day. I'd be on the bike, sitting at a light, straight meant work, left & I was off for 2-3 days. This was long before cell phones, etc... Get back, catch hell from the boss for 2-3 minutes, then things were back to normal.
