My pile of shit to deal with is no where near what some people have, but some days, I just wanna say eff it, i'm gone for a while.
Yep, did it a few years ago and thinking about doing it again real soon...I'm thinking this time of getting a car and driving North until the road literally ends. I did it once before and ended up north of Flin Flon on an old logging road that dead ended into an Indian village where they spoke no English and had one old timey general store.

My wife asked me the other day what I would do if anything happened to her. I told her I would sell everything off and disappear for a while. I take off and ride or drive sometimes but only for hours at best. To be honest though when I am off work I do not always carry around my phone. At night I leave it in the other room as long as the wife's home. When I was between houses it bugged the shit out of my buddy that I would just leave my phone for hours. Fuck all that being tied to a cell phone. We made it along time with out the need for electronic leashes. If someone really needs something they can leave a message. No message means no return call.

I'm the same way. I'm thinking of taking tomorrow off and driving out to Marfa /Alpine /Fort Davis. Grab a cheap motel and meander back...

Oh hell no, when I get away it's as many back roads as possible unless I'm running late trying to get back because I stayed away too long...

I do it almost every day at lunch, I go and run a few miles. After about a mile you don't think of anything.

when I was in Colorado I pretty much didn't answer the phone... I would call people back, but at my convenience.

a week and a half of 1000000mph and then I was in Ireland I had ZERO service. When I got back to the states, I didn't even turn the phone on until the next morning, and when it started blowing up, I made the decision to do exactly what I did a week after getting home and running around 10000mph tying up loose ends... I went through my phone and deleted 90% of my contacts.

If you weren't on the list, I didn't answer. If you texted and identified yourself and what you wanted, I would/will reply IF it's something I want to spend my time on.

two weeks later, my phone mic quit working... I used speaker phone for half a day and then that mic quit working.

It's been over a week, and I haven't really wanted to do anything about it. I have a back-up line that I will call people back on.

So as it stands, even if they're on the list, I still don't answer (I can't)

after 4yrs of being tethered to that phone almost non-stop, this has been a huge step.

I'm on semi-hiatus until next year. I'm still busy as hell. Liquidating assets to start up a new business. I know my phone addiction will ramp up when the new business starts, but I won't make myself available near as much as I used to. Turning the phone off in the evening, leaving it at home on the weekend while I'm running around doing stuff with the wife, etc.

I almost checked out for a week to run to Colorado, but the tying up loose ends so that I can chill the fuck out over the holidays took priority

Headed out there for a week. I'm used to going from Austin out 290 to I-10. Which route do you take from DFW? Gonna do Balmorhea, Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, Terlingua, etc..

Just 377/67. You can take it from Benbrook, and it comes here to Stephenville, then on to Brownwood, San Angelo, & Alpine, and you only gave to get on I10 for a few miles around Ft. Stockton. From Alpine, you take 90, and you're there. It eats up 6 or 7 hours from here. From the metroplex, that'd be another 1-3, depending on where you started.

My grandparents used to do what they call a one tanker. In the morning they would get in the car and pick a direction and go. When they hit half a tank, they would stop and see what was around to do, after that they’d drive home on the other half of the tank. They never went the same way twice.
I think my wife and I need to start doing that.
