I had what appears to be a Cockapoo scratching and barking at my front door this afternoon. She was really cold and wet and I didn't see anyone around that appeared to be looking for her so I brought her inside and put her up in my dog's kennel.
No tags on her. The humane society and SPCA were both closed when I called due to the weather and the police had no report of a missing dog. I knocked on most of the doors on my street and nobody knew who the do belonged to so she is sleeping in my study in the kennel right now.
I think anyone who is a dog owner or lover would try to get them inside out of the cold as long as they're not mean or aggressive.

Edit: saw that you posted you found them while I was typing. That's good to hear. I know I would be worried about my dog being lost on a day like today.

Oh man the pain I felt in my chest when they didn't come back like they normally do, plus how the weather is my wife and I were just in panic mode. Even if I didn't find them I probably still would have gone out later tonight to look. Even though they are dogs they are part of my family and I will do anything to make sure my family is safe.

Um yes . I stated I was glad he found them and also stated my opinion of leaving any dogs outside ( doghouse or not) on a cold ass day. I'm guessing that if you have dogs that they live outside. Mine are indoor pets so thats were my opinion comes from.

Yeah my dogs are outside dogs. When it gets in the 30's they come inside at night and if we are home during the day. But for the past two days they have been inside most of the days. Tonight is the longest they have been outside since the cold front blew in. I think it's too damn cold for any pet to be outside longer then an hour. I just figured since they have been inside all day, and they are outside dogs they need to be outside for a little bit. If I knew the gate was going to blow open then they would have stayed inside.

Good to see a happy ending, I'll be sure and double check my gates in the morning. My dog has a doggy door so she just comes and goes as she pleases, but if they get gets open she will go exploring.

We have an insert for our sliding door and I LOVED that thing. Never had to worry about letting the dog out. Then we got the Yellow and she is a dumbass. She'll go outside and play in the mud then come strolling into the house.. So we started taking the door out in the rain but left it up during the nicer days. Then she learns how to jump the 5' fence. So no more doggie door.

Ours only go out for about 15 minute increments. Otherwise they get bored and start digging or trying to get out.

Yeah my wife held on to the American Eskimo for at least an hour after I brought them home. That is her baby (besides the kids of course) but we had her before we got married. The Lab is mine and been laying next to me on the couch since I brought them home.
