The one and only '71 I ever owned was a Montego MX with a 351C. This Mach 1 looks much, much better, but after all I did only pay a whopping $400 for the Mercury back in the early '80s.

Ha, same here. I really dig the shit out of a lot of the outrageous 70's cars and customizing. Too bad most of them had dogshit for engines. I also don't mind the 71-73 cars. I always look at them hard when I see them tooling around.

I actually owned a completely stock down to the shitty carb and exhaust manifolds '72 Mach 1 with a 4V 351C and FMX trans, it ran great on the highway, enough to hang just fine with the 5.0 5 speed cars and IROC-Zs in the late 1980s. From a dead stop a buddy's 1973 2V (carb and heads) automatic car would beat it by a car though.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

He bought it, and fell in love. I think he's pretty serious about keeping it at this point, but who knows what he'll do in a few months. It's a nice cruising car, steering is a bit sloppy, paint looks good, but has flaws, and the repaint was just good, not great. Im nit-picking, its still a very nice car. Already has a sanden A/C compressor upgrade with r134, though it wasnt working, and a charge didnt last but a few hours.
He drove it around all day yesterday, and we drove to work in it today. He's got a 53 willys jeep that he's had for years, and he mentioned selling it now."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford

Saw the pics on FB, but it wouldn't let me comment on them. Looks like a pretty solid car. I know I would have a lot of fun driving that thing around. Glad to see the 71-73s getting some love, I think they are pretty neat cars when they're put together right, and that one looks great for a driver.

Glad he likes it. If he decides to sell and I haven't already bought one I'd be interested in talking to him.
