    17 years and running.

The larger the city (Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington) the better the pay, better benefits, better opportunity to promote.

Arlington is currently recruiting. Look into it.
Fort Worth won't have a test for several more months.

What you must keep in mind is that the process takes MONTHS.
Written exam, physical agility, background check, interview and then actually getting hired is not a fast process.
    But it's completely worth it.
^^ this guy knows whats up.

So dumb. Clearly no idea. To the OP it is very competitive so open yourself up to finding a job anywhere in the state or country. I think ft worth had over 3000 applicants and hired less than 100

They won't even talk to you unless you're certified. And I think all their fireman are now paramedics... Gotta pay for them certs.

If you're a medic we (McKinney) start out at around 52k.

Fire/medic is the future. I am a fire/medic and our minimum standard is AEMT now. We do far more medical so it does make sense.

I will be making over 70 in 5 years with our step plan. With OT probably close to 80k while only working roughly 125 days a year. Great benefits, awesome job, great for families... It's hard to believe I get to do this on the regular. It is worth the hard work it takes to get there.

Texas is an odd state that offers all the training where moat others require various certs. I would still assume you are a much better candidate with your FF and Medical certs. Be prepared to be turned down numerous times. It also seems that if you cant knock the written test out of the park... You cant make it to the top of the hiring lists due to points. Most places as well it is your interviewing ability that seals the deal. They are trying to find out in 10 mins if they can live with your ass for 24hrs at a time.

A few years ago they would sponsor you through fire and emt school. Now you have to be fire/emt certified. Start at 59.6k
