Just craigslist it high and if you don't get bites move down. If it was mine I would start at 7-8k and see what happened.

        Lol at people suggesting 8-10k.

It's probably still a great truck for somebody but a dealer will give you $0 which has been previously mentioned. If they show something on paper they are just making it up elsewhere.

It would probably sell easy on CL as a work truck if it runs decent. Landscape companies, painters, etc... Call it a "throw away truck" for those kinds of folks. I'd say in the 2500-4k range depending on how clean the rest of is.

Saying all that though, list that sucker for $$$ and see if somebody bites. Couldn't hurt.

And, it's not 4wd by chance is it?

I could see getting $6k out of it maybe with lifter issue/AC.

I've got a 07 crew cab lariat 6.0 that is running fantastic with 200k miles. I'm getting sub $10k offers on CList. I pulled the ad and fixed a couple things on it and will relist again.

I am a used car dealer.... A big lot wont give shit on it, but they never do anyway. Newer trucks still bring a killing, regardless of mileage. Case in point, I financed out a 96 F150 with 289K on it for more than 3k. Somehow I think he can get more than 3k for an 08 Sierra.

Again, one with 250K and below average went through manheim for $9700. No way does his problems/miles knock off $5700 from the auction value. At bare minimum, I would take $5500 for the truck.

Read what you just posted.... You financed a 1996 F150 with 289k on it. No respectable/ larger dealer and especially no bank will do that. Same goes for an 08 Sierra with almost 400k on it. So as an individual he is looking for a cash customer. And most people that have 10k to spend aren't looking for something with 400k on it.

And Manheim is generally just a good gauge in odd behavior. Unless something has changed lately over populated by mouth breathers that will pay too much just to have cars on their lot. Anddddd, 250k is alot different than 400k. You are getting into the territory where damn near everything has wear on it regardless of how it was maintained.

Yes, but no large/respectable dealer is going to let a low mile 08 Sierra CC go for less than 20K. If you're talking about 1/3 of that price, people will come up with the money. Also, people with decent credit can still get personal loans. Sure, there is no way that he can get 10K with the problems, but fixed, I can see it happening.

As for manheim prices, you get the occasional fluke, but the majority is spot on.

I don't know what you do for a living, but this is what I do. I deal with people, high mileage vehicles, and auctions on a weekly basis. I can tell you that if he puts that truck up for $4K, his phone will be blown up with calls within 30 minutes.

If you trade it in, it will go to auction, and someone will buy it. So the dealer taking it on trade will give x amount on it, in hopes that they will break even our maybe make a buck.

I watched an 03ish Explorer go through Tuesday with 350k on it and it brought 3500.

The market has changed dramatically over the last 4 years. The prices have gone so insanely high that even high miles don't make that much of a difference. Looking back at my past records, I can't believe I bought and sold cars so cheap.

It's gotten to the point that high mile crap sells for what clean cars used to sell for, and clean cars sell for retail.
