When I worked at Albertsons in mesquite. I was pulling money from the bottom of the safe getting it ready for Loomis come pick up. I stood up not knowing the top of the safe door was open, when I stood up quickly the bottom edge of the top door did a pretty deep puncture. It sucked even worse because I had my head shaved back in those days.

Ouch, yeah had a couple, none that bad . They take forever to heal, my last one I had to make a trip in to have a "specialist" open it back up and remove some scalp the hair was growing sideways and it left a lump on my noggin.

I've had 2 that were a big deal. No big surprise to anyone I'm certain. First was when I was about 13, fell off my bike at a decent clip when my foot slipped of the pedal and upset my balance. Got a concussion out of that one. That fucking sucked.

Second was when I flipped my '96 GT in 2001. Having a bunch of broken glass in between the car roof and my head as my head slammed into it slightly crooked, crushing all the soft tissue in my neck was not a great moment either, and I'm still fucked up pretty badly to this day from it. Not sure how I avoided stitches on that; maybe because I didn't have health insurance.. Washing all that broken glass out of my matted with blood hair in a JPS bathroom was not something I care to have happen again.

OP, why can't you be on pain meds? I wouldn't wish a concussion on anyone.

I played LB for a 5A high school team, I have a hard head but there are some games I don't remember much of. At the time I was around 210 and I nailed a RB who was about 230 coming through the line. Both our helmets broke and he was knocked out. Got back to the huddle to call the next play and had no idea how I got there.

Doc said no pain medication the first 48-72 hours due to possible brain injuries. Said the pain medication could mask any warning signs of internal bleeding, etc.

Jesus, that's miserable. Don't you have to drive home?

After to many bicycle (rode vert) crashes and years of boxing coupled along with just being a stuntman wannabe, I'm surprised my brain isn't totally fucked up.

ive had several concussions from various forms of fighting, nose broke 5or6 times, and about 40% UHL in my left ear from a hell of a right hook. i'll be 39 next week and i feel it more everyday!

                      god bless.

Never been knocked out but the closest I came was when i kicked myself in the head. i let a shitty packer pack my Stilleto and the canopy basically opened slider down and i folded in half and kicked myself in the forehead. had a nice shoe mark on my helmet to prove it. That REALLY sucked. probably lost a .5 inch in height too. :/

^^This. When I had to have plastic surgery after MOHS surgery (skin cancer), the doc stitched several layers of skin below the surface. I didn't realize that was a standard thing now though. Every other time I've had stitches were your normal ER hack jobs.

Geez man. Should have gotten a comfy dark hotel room up there. I could barely move with my concussion, and I was a youthful healing 13 year old. I can't imagine driving 12 or so hours with a fresh one.

Well I did in a way. Got home about 2am, slept in the cabin until 10ish, kids were bouncing off the wall going nuts, so couldn't sleep much more. Got up and took it pretty easy and drove straight back. I thought about getting a motel around Amarillo but ended up just pushing through and getting on home.
