My tuned f150 scoots, I'm not expecting anything close to that, i just want it to get out of its own way.. What jeep should i be searching for? Are the autos decent? I had a 91 5 speed xj 4x4 back in the day and i loved it, it was a turd, but it had a ton of miles and i dont think it ran right. With some 31" all terrains it went everywhere i wanted it to.

Jeep XJ hands down. Screw Broncos. I had a 94 Bronco. It rode really nice but that front suspension was junk. Not to mention you pray that your E4OD doesn't go out on you. It's a weak pos trans and it's expensive to rebuild. C clip rear axle is another negative.

if you want a jeep as a toy, get a jeep, but I promise you, you'll make that 800 mile trip MAYBE twice... most likely once... and you'll be right back in the Ecoboost

worse mileage, uncomfortable, noisy, rough riding, etc. all to keep miles off your truck? fuck it, that's what it's for!

I foresee buyer's remorse in your future

I agree with Cooter. Drive the truck, put the miles on it and be comfortable. When you wear it out, get the next vehicle.

I like broncos, and Ive had a few, but they are heavy and dont have any balls. Jeeps arent as comfortable, but neither is walking away from a truck stuck out on the trail.

Maybe I'm missing something. Why exactly are you looking for a 4x4? Do you really want 35" tires driving 400 miles? I would hate life.

Older grand Cherokees are good. You can't go wrong with any engine choice. 4.0, 4.0 HO, 4.7, 5.2 or the 5.9. The major difference is the type of 4x4 system. I believe the overland has the most advanced system.

I would sugest a stock xj cherokee. Anything from. 1990-2001 is a good choice. Stock tires with maybe just a locker in the rear should be all you would need. Probably a winch also.

Just buy you a beater Civic. A lot of the lease roads you can make it down in a car, provided you DGAF about the undercarriage in the event of a rainstorm.

A 2.5RS would be a good cheap option, and it would be fun as hell.
