Here is a cut from Wikipedia. George's change wasn't a ban, but a restriction on embryonic stem cells, which wouldn't apply in this case. It was still a restriction on stem cell research, no matter which way you cut it.

Ahh, so now your are being selective by saying a "ban of any kind" That isn't what you stated earlier. You simply said that they banned stem cell research.

So let's go over the actual facts here:

1. Federal funding of Stem Cell research DIDN'T EXIST before the Bush administration. They created it to begin with. Bush only limited what the funding can be used for (those original 21 stem cell lines). Limiting how federal money can be used in research is NOT A BAN.

2. The restriction on federal funding covered EMBRYONIC stem cell research and ONLY embryonic stem cell research.

3. There was no ban on private funding of stem cell research period. Anyone could do that research on any stem cell line that they wanted as long as they weren't taking tax payer money.

4. This treatment has nothing to do with EMBRYONIC stem cell research. As Don correctly points out, this treatment was done with stem cells from an ADULT.

5. This research was in development BEFORE President Obama lifted restrictions on federal funding.

Frankly I'm OK with Obama lifting the restriction. There has never been any evidence that stem cell lines were coming from abortion.

Additionally, partly due to the Bush administration's restrictions, scientist learned that they could do a lot of things with adult stem cells. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Actually, they didn't even remove funding. They established rules for entirely new funding. If I recall, the Bush Administration allowed for $600million in federal funding for stem cell research. Some of that was for embryonic stem cell research.
