Someone posted an analysis of bank card PIN data online. I tried the most common number first and, luckily for the owner of the phone, got it on the second guess.

I'd like to think that I'd have at least, in decreasing order of probability, tried all values for which p >> EV. in truth, probably not.

When we picked up my son from the airport on Saturday, obviously my wife and 7yr old daughter were with me...

Today we call her daycare to check on the field trip of the day and time needed to be there to make it, and they had a message for us. Evidently my daughter took her little pink wallet with her to the airport and left it there. Inside was all of her money ($18 - unbeknownst to me), her library card, community center card, and a business card for her daycare.

The guy that found the wallet called the daycare and had my daughter's name and left a message with his phone number to reach out to us. Nice guy, we are going to meet up with him tomorrow to get it.

It wouldn't even take a 2nd thought. I would be looking for the owner instantly. I've been in similar situations in the past and I just don't feel comfortable keeping someone else's stuff, no matter how valuable.

I wouldn't even have to think about it.. I would do whatever I could to find the owner. That said, given the details in this case, I'm not sure I would have been smart enough to figure out how to find the owner.

If the owners info was there then yes. I worked with a guy that found a case of power tools that had his info on it and he kept it. He was even with his kids when he found it. I remember thinking what a piece of crap for not doing the right thing.

Shitty.... Those tools could've been how the guy that lost them fed his kids.
