I'd just see cameras and try to return it. That said, I'd return it after looking to see if there were any neat pictures on the memory card but that goes without saying. I think it's value is only to the one who lost it.

I would try like hell to return it to the owner. I've had some stuff stolen from me in the past and it pisses me off.

If they have a return address then I would make an effort to get in touch with them and get their equiptment back to them. They would of course have to come get it or make arrangements to have it shipped back to them. No way to get in touch with them or they are being assholes about me having to pay any amount to get it back to them, its mine!

I was at the race track a few years back; my wife was on fertility drugs and bat shit crazy. She called and started bitching, and I set my phone down while walking through the paddock with her still talking. I had a nice peaceful evening without her calling every ten mins.

Next day someone walks into my pit area with my phone, said they had to charge it and there were a ton of missed calls on it, but they looked through pics and found my race car, so they brought it to me. It left a pretty big impression on me, and I try to do the same if I can.

When I find stuff I do my best to find the owners, knowing that if I was in their position I would want someone do the same. Some of my favorites are while taking a dump at a restaurant I found a wallet with 800 bucks that belonged to a cook, took a dump in Cabela's and found an iPhone that belonged to a sales associate, and at the vet waiting on my wife I found a smart phone in the snow outside.

I feel returning something that's lost is more rewarding than keeping something that isn't mine. I will admit I kept a surefire flashlight laying in the street and didn't try to find the owner.

I found a wallet in the middle of the highway just up from my work, lady left it on roof and drove out of a local business. She ended up working at the local DQ, had a little cash and an I.D. after a couple phone calls was able to get it back to her.

On a ski trip to Winter Park, I found a sony camera at the bottom of some moguls. There wasn't anything in particular to I.d. the owner so I called the lost an found, gave them my number, and told them to have anyone that reported a lost camera to call me. If they could properly I.d. it then I would ship it to them on my dime. I never received a call on that one.

I dropped an envelope full of cash at the ICE exhibit, and someone turned it in. I thought it was long gone.

If it were relatively easy to find the owner I'd make an effort to return it. I'd probably even go so far as to call Canon with the serial# and see if it were registered to anyone.

Then again by default all of the photos should have the serial# in the exif data, you could punch it into http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/ and you may be able to find some photos uploaded from it.

If a way to track down the owner, hell yeah I'd return it. If not, I'd keep it guilt free too. (and learn a lesson to keep a label/card inside...etc)
