The dude got out of his car, started pointing, and ran in front of Tony's car. I'm not a Tony Stewart fan, but Darwinism seems to be the immediate cause of death in this case.

Agreed. This didn't look like a case of Tony going all GTA on his ass, just that he got too close.

Well, that was stupid. Can't say I blame Stewart for some dumbass that was playing frogger on a race track.

I feel bad for the guy but it was stupid to go road rage on a dirt track. Those cars are always slipping and sliding around the bends.

I wonder how fans will respond. Seems like most here are at least giving Stewart the benefit of a doubt.

Tyler Graves, a sprint-car racer and friend of Ward's, told Sporting News in a phone interview that he was sitting in the Turn 1 grandstands and saw everything that happened.

"Tony pinched him into the frontstretch wall, a racing thing," Graves said. "The right rear tire went down, he spun on the exit of (Turn) 2. They threw the caution and everything was toned down. Kevin got out of his car. … He was throwing his arms up all over the place at Tony for most of the corner.

"I know Tony could see him. I know how you can see out of these cars. When Tony got close to him, he hit the throttle. When you hit a throttle on a sprint car, the car sets sideways. It set sideways, the right rear tire hit Kevin, Kevin was sucked underneath and was stuck under it for a second or two and then it threw him about 50 yards."

Naaah looking at it the track slopes so gunning it will cause the back the slide away like it did and not towards the guy. I see it as a tragic accident that could have been avoided.

Emotional or not I don't see him trying to hit someone with his car on purpose. Hell it could've kicked out like that hitting the brakes on that slope.

Looks like the front wheel caught him and the rest was physics doing its, thing.

Sucks for the kid and his family but I feel for Stewart. He has to live with this plus all the shit that's gonna come with it.

That's my take on it. Wonder how it's all gonna play out from here.
Non tapatalk Sig so the butt hurt va-JJs can stop crying about not being able to turn it off.

Former NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will compete in today's Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen, according to the AP. The race comes less than 24 hours after he was involved in an incident resulting in the death of sprint car driver Kevin Ward, Jr., last night. UPDATE

it was probably some kid who thought he was hot shit. well... smoke.... smoked him. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

In all seriousness that's a pretty shitty deal. I am surprised that Stewart is going to race today though. I'd think NASCAR would hold him out just to see what happens with the criminal proceedings, which i'm sure there will be.

That was intentional in my eyes. The ass end of those cars comes out when when you stab the throttle, correct? Tony looked like he knew exactly what he was doing.

actually, the cars are pretty hard to turn with how staggered the tires are. throttle is what makes the car turn left, generally. IMO, he might have thought he was going to spray a little dirt/mud on the kid, but its hard to tell. I wouldn't put Tony at fault because the kid should have stayed in his car, but i'm sure there will be lawsuits up the wazooo

I drive a sprint car, and they handle nothing like you'd expect. If you turn the wheel too hard they can begin to spin out when going slow, if you yank the wheel around going fast, you will spin out. If you lift out of the throttle abruptly the car will get upset and start dancing around. THE ONLY TIME a sprint car handles in a manner that's (somewhat) easily controlled is when you're going fast and on throttle.

Was waiting for your opinion on this matter - to me it seems like something less than an accident.

                                What do you think?
