  • Can anyone do some emergency machine shop work.... TODAY?

I need 4 bushings made for an emergency customer issue we need to resolve today. I have mechanical drawings. It's a hot issue and I volunteered to use my resources to locate a machine shop.

4 bushings to support a bearing assembly. Basically sleeves / inserts. Material is C45 and crude dimensions are 4.33" x 1.457" with an ID of 3.937"......

I have exact dimensions and a professional drawing to send.

Let me know if you can accommodate. It's not for me, it's for my company, and it's a pretty big deal.

Prompt payment is a non issue.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Oh... my office is in North Dallas... the customer is in Grand Prairie, but I don't think location is the issue. We just need it done ASAP.

I don't have a shop...but it may help if you have the material on hand...do you?

No... I don't. The material specified from Italy is C45 - US equivalent is 1045 Carbon Steel.

If I had the material I could help you but I do not... Sounds like an easy lathe job depending on how critical the tolerances are and what surface finish needs to be maintained.

Yeah, it's not that big of a deal to make really. Tolerances are critical, but nothing out of the ordinary.

The thing is with this deal is it's for a custom application for a customer, who is in a panic because he needs to produce the rolled parts our machine does, and he has a demo to one of his customers on Monday, who is going to probably give him millions worth of business...

And our problem is, everyone in Italy is on vacation all month, and even if they could make it over there, the issue of shipping it from there to here OVERNIGHT... is a problem.

However, we just found a place that can make them right away.

If you can live with 1045 spec that. I can't imagine many shops in the area stocking Italian spec steel.

If it's worth that much the backup plan should be to buy from both shops just to make sure. You have 0 margin of error if anything goes wrong. Even if parts are delivered...you're not guaranteed they will work as intended.

Good luck and I'm glad you've got at least 1 commitment! If you need any help on a technical review side with respect to drawings or materials let me know.

Thanks man... I believe we now have it covered. I will post pics up later as to what the issue was with this whole thing, but it's basically to accommodate a customer's needs by enhancing his new machine he bought from us to do some trick stuff.

So, he actually needs a custom factory part, which is impossible, and the next best thing is to have it made, today, and do whatever it takes to make him happy. Customer is building a cement mixer tank out of these cones and cylinders made on our machine. He has a huge meeting to demo the finished product on Monday with millions in business on the line.

So.... the parts will be done by 3 PM with money no object... we'll pick them up over on Harry Hines, then go by the customer and put everything together and babysit him all night to make sure his rolled parts come out just right.

BTW way this customer cursed us out this morning because we were not willing to endorse his attempt at some renegade, rigged up solution. I mean cursed us, our whole company, etc, told us we weren't worth a fuck and told my boss to go fuck himself, etc.

Now that we have a solution he seems a bit more humble and would like our help putting everything together for him.

It's just business, though. Lots of it.

It's frustrating position to be in. I bought a Rollformer new and the initial issues had me cussing a lot of people. His position sounds a little different. People get upset when they buy something with expected results and they aren't met

Sounds like your customer sucks at planning!

At least y'all look like the Heros...hopefully he fully understands that
