Nearly every manufacturing plant has Safety Manager's these days. You definitely have lots of options. I'm sure you land a job doing that easily. To your point, though, you do have grown men doing horseplay and practical jokes in a manufacturing environment where people can get maimed or killed that you have to corral.

As far as the OP though. I've thought long and hard about it myself. I'm quite bored in my current role. Pay is decent enough, I've got a 10 minute commute and hardly any OT. So, my trade off is life-style versus my boredom. I've already turned down one job that was interesting, as the commute would have been 1-1.5 hours...that was just taking away too much family time.
I was bored where I was too. Pay was great but never got to work on anything new. If I had passed on this job it would have been the third government job I passed up so I decided chances of getting one later might be slim. For me the commute on 820/183/121 was just a beating and wanted to work closer to home. Now I am 13 miles from the house and get home in about 30 min.
