Solo vacation ideas?

I have considered that but I would feel like a loser going alone. I bet I could do it for $700 or so.

When I went on my honeymoon, a dude (that looked like Adam Savage from Myth Busters) ended up going solo since someone canceled. He was kinda bummed the first day, then made friends and had a blast, so much that he extended his vacation for a few extra days.

If you walked this portion I've got a guest room you could use if needed. Look at the foot bridge crossing at 501 and 301, look up snowden on the James river. There are places to rent gear out here too. Also check McAfee knob. The pct is the prettiest in southern Oregon by crater lake and bridge of the gods. The socal portion of it is going to be miserable this time of year

Obviously it depends on the rent car!

I am a AAA member and it was $12/day to rent an Impala using their discount when we went to San Francisco earlier this year. Rent from an agency at a major airport and it will be cheaper.

I had 5-7 days and $1500 you bet your ass the money would go to nothing more than airfare and food and I'd be sleeping in the Sierra Nevadas for 6 of those 7 days. Ansel Adams Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, Kings Canyon, Tahoe Basin... somewhere west, quiet, and open.

Camping? I have little to no gear. Hotels with a view? I wonder what a rent car for a few days would cost.

Big bend or Yosemite, I see people all the time, its nice just to get away from everything sometimes.

This but I'd book out of New Orleans. It's a little bit longer of a drive but the embarkation city is a lot more fun. Not to mention all of the coeds you get from Tulane, LSU and Alabama. Bourbon St speaks for itself, then the cruise line will generally seat you with other singles. As for the ports Cozumel is easy on your own and in Progreso just hit one of the ruins.

Either that or look at a trip to Vegas. Plenty of stuff to do there.

I was married when I did my last DC/VA trip but my wife was busy so I did lots of alone stuff. If you are a history buff you can hit Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown in one day. Then take the subway to DC and spend 3 days looking at stuff.

We are leaving out of Houston on 18 October for a 7 day on Norwegian Jewel. Just me, the wife, the 2yr old (2 bedroom suite) and the mother in law (in her own cabin). I then let my family know and they have been booking the same cruise. Not a group thing and I am going to capitalize on it being a BIG ship.

Cruise? You could do an inside cabin for 7 days for less than $1,000 out of Houston or Galveston. Then all you need to pay for are your drinks and excursions. Smuggle your alcohol on the ship and you have one of those covered.

Alaska, I've never been, and frankly don't know if I'd want to explore up there alone (thinking the what if.. situation for emergencys) but I would love to "get lost" out there for 5 days or so.

I've been busy. My problem responding to threads like this is an overabundance of suggestions. Driving the AlCan through the British Columbia wilderness will always be a high point out of all the trips. Montana, Utah, and Wyoming are beautiful. If you need inspiration, here ya go:
