Solo vacation ideas?

When I went on my honeymoon, a dude (that looked like Adam Savage from Myth Busters) ended up going solo since someone canceled. He was kinda bummed the first day, then made friends and had a blast, so much that he extended his vacation for a few extra days.

If you walked this portion I've got a guest room you could use if needed. Look at the foot bridge crossing at 501 and 301, look up snowden on the James river. There are places to rent gear out here too. Also check McAfee knob. The pct is the prettiest in southern Oregon by crater lake and bridge of the gods. The socal portion of it is going to be miserable this time of yearOriginally posted by HarrisonTX View PostWhat part ?Last edited by lowthreeohz; 08-06-2014, 02:12 PM.

Obviously it depends on the rent car!
I am a AAA member and it was $12/day to rent an Impala using their discount when we went to San Francisco earlier this year. Rent from an agency at a major airport and it will be cheaper.

Camping? I have little to no gear. Hotels with a view? I wonder what a rent car for a few days would cost.Originally posted by Strychnine View PostI had 5-7 days and $1500 you bet your ass the money would go to nothing more than airfare and food and I'd be sleeping in the Sierra Nevadas for 6 of those 7 days. Ansel Adams Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, Kings Canyon, Tahoe Basin... somewhere west, quiet, and open.

You've already been given a lot of good choices, so I'll just put links to the 'deals' that Virgin emails me weekly. Have fun.

I accept that.Originally posted by BP View PostThis but I'd book out of New Orleans. It's a little bit longer of a drive but the embarkation city is a lot more fun. Not to mention all of the coeds you get from Tulane, LSU and Alabama. Bourbon St speaks for itself, then the cruise line will generally seat you with other singles. As for the ports Cozumel is easy on your own and in Progreso just hit one of the ruins.
Either that or look at a trip to Vegas. Plenty of stuff to do there.
I was married when I did my last DC/VA trip but my wife was busy so I did lots of alone stuff. If you are a history buff you can hit Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown in one day. Then take the subway to DC and spend 3 days looking at stuff.
We are leaving out of Houston on 18 October for a 7 day on Norwegian Jewel. Just me, the wife, the 2yr old (2 bedroom suite) and the mother in law (in her own cabin). I then let my family know and they have been booking the same cruise. Not a group thing and I am going to capitalize on it being a BIG ship.

You could do an inside cabin for 7 days for less than $1,000 out of Houston or Galveston. Then all you need to pay for are your drinks and excursions. Smuggle your alcohol on the ship and you have one of those covered.

I've been busy. My problem responding to threads like this is an overabundance of suggestions. Driving the AlCan through the British Columbia wilderness will always be a high point out of all the trips. Montana, Utah, and Wyoming are beautiful. If you need inspiration, here ya go:
Bonneville Road Trip:
Fly in to Los Angeles Sept 10th. Go to Hertz Counter. Pick up a 2012 Mustang GT. Proceed up the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco. Tour various filming locations of Bullitt, cross Golden Gate, etc. Proceed to Reno, Nevada. Lose some money. Drive across Nevada on Route 50, also known as the Loneliest Road in America. Many
Roswell Road Trip:
Just a heads up, if you don't hear from me again, I've been abducted by aliens. Off work for 9 days and doing a little 2000 mile NM/TX road trip in my 99 GT with my dog. Already hit Amarillo and Cadillac Ranch. I think Highway 70 that leads into Roswell could rival Route 50 in Nevada as "The Loneliest Road in America
Alaska Road Trip
August 17th. Fly into Portland, Oregon, get rental. Head to Timberline Lodge in the mountains. The Timberline was the hotel that was used for the exterior shots of The Shining. Get up and head to Mt St Helens and Seattle. Tour Seattle Underground and Kurt Cobains house. Head to Vancouver, Canada. Stalk Phil, see what trouble is
New Orleans Road Trip:
Headed to New Orleans and Pensacola for a week next week Saturday. Going to finally stretch out the legs on the new 5.0. Looking for additional ideas on things to do, probably be swinging through Bayou La Batre and Mobile, maybe Biloxi(which I know is a shithole)and will only spend a day or two in Pensacola; most of the trip
Mid-Western Road Trip:
Key West Road Trip:
Back on January 21st I was spending a typical day dicking around. Late last year I had planned to take another road trip, but after my dog passed away I decided to rescue another Border Collie pup and put things on hold until we got acclimated to each other. I hadn't looked at NASA's launch schedule in awhile, and when it
