  • Talk some sense into me... Foxbody infatuation

Need help as my emotions are getting the best of me on a car:

91 GT, 75k miles. Exterior red and is damn near perfect in every way. Interior is a mint and I mean MINT black interior with everything present. Car is all original down to the air silencer except the battery, tires, and alternator. Car is an AOD which brings the value down but damn this car is clean and I don't mind the AOD at all. You would think this car had 30k miles and not 70k.

The price is $9k... and he seems pretty tight on it. That being said this car is nice as heck and my plan would be to keep it original and just cruise it.

    Backstory:
My first real car was a fox GT 15 years ago. I married the woman who I dated all my life and through HS driving that car. I have so many great memories of my first fox that it's making it hard to say no to this car. My dad has been a factory worker his whole life and when he got his "20 year gift" of a Rolex (not DFW baller rolex), he sold it to the jeweler and bought my foxbody.

Things have happened over the years. I sold my first fox to buy my wife's ring when I joined the service. Then I sold my new edge when we moved to Okinawa. Finally sold my next fox after we moved back to the states and bought our first home.

Interested to see what you guys have to say as these don't come up locally very often at all.

man, if you're a lucky man, you'll only live once...

I don't make a habit of impulse decisions, but fucking buy the thing and enjoy the mother fucking shit out of it...

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only if you can afford to throw the $9k away (meh, half of it)

don't spread yourself thin on an emotional purchase, but if you can truly afford it, buy the damn thing

I agree with Forrest. But a lot of people make the mistake of trying to make a playtoy or project car into a daily driver, or making a daily driver into a 10 second race car.

Always keep daily drivers & project cars separate - and ALWAYS pay cash for project cars. And be sure it's an amount money you afford to lose.

I guess I don't see why you wouldn't buy it?

We are secure financially. I am a firefighter/medic making $50+ my first year with no OT. I paint houses on the side when i'm off 230 days a year. I love my job! ! My wife is a dental hygienist. We have zero debt except our house. No car payments, no student loans. We pay an extra 50% on our mortgage every month... Financially I feel we are fine.

I guess my scare is I don't want to way over pay. I'm such a Jew I've always come out good on my cars. we also have a newborn... But she needs to learn to change oil and do burnouts at a young age right?

it's impossible to overpay for an emotional purchase if you can afford it...

if all is right with your world and this is what you want, buy it!!!!!

What are you looking to do with the car? What kinds of mods? Or just keep it nice and simple?

Ive seen stupid clean foxes got for more than that. Hell Jeremy has a coupe for 7 or 8 grand that isnt "perfect" but looks damn nice.

If it's what you want, then why not?

I'm with Forrest on this too. Your story about the car is similar to mine. I've got a very soft spot for a red 93 gt. As for the price, cash in person always talks. That being said 9k sounds like a ton for a gt. I just can't wrap my mind around spending close to 10k on a fox body.

Jewelry traded for car - car traded for jewelry. Life is indeed a cycle.

...just buy the car if you want it that bad. Sounds like you've already got it figured out and your mind made up....you don't need validation from this crew.

Maybe you missed the part about him being a factory worker and not a pretentious douche. In all seriousness he would hate that. He just gave me his fathers bulova that i'm trying to get restored.

I've got more of a dilemma to update with once i'm around a computer.

I agree that 9k is a ton for a gt. That is more inline with similar coupe prices over the last year. I know a guy who snagged a local bimini coupe with similar miles for 7100. I've always wanted black interior... Balck tweed looks so good. That is a huge draw as well.

As soon as discretionary funds exist, I'm buying another white GT. I want black interior, but will live with grey, and 5 speed is a must. Fuck reason and sensibility.
