  • resume templates?

Time to update mine, and looking at my previous resume, it kinda sucks.

Is there a generator online that I can use to build a new one or a template to download?

M$ Word allows you to search for templates of all types. Just hit file-> new and search for the template type you want.

Do you have the software available to generate your own? Bluebeam is what I used to make my template.

I think I only have openoffice or something that only teases you.

If you can afford it, I would pay someone to do it. I've nearly tripled my salary in 3 years because I can sell myself easier.

That's a good option. Not sure I have the funds right now for it, but I may have to find a way. Unfortunately my commission only pay has dropped significantly, and it doesn't look like it's going back up anytime soon.

I have put together a rough draft so to speak, if anyone out there would like to look it over Ill gladly email it and take whatever feedback is suggested.

DJ, I also used that resume service Cruz posted and was very satisfied with it. Unfortunately right after it was done my life turned in an unexpected direction, so I can't say if it would have helped me, but I was very confident I would see some results after how in depth they went. I really felt like it was a small price to pay for the potential benefits.

What about ms works? I've used and modded their template to fit what I wanted. Most store bought computers come with it.

I used Word, and the template they provided worked OK, but it was fighting me to change the format in the slightest. I gave up around midnight last night, and on the way to work I was able to make some changes on my phone (S5 has word already?) that helped. Trying to not be a jumbled mess with wall-o-text and look professional.

Here is the format I use on mine..

Obviously I'm in IT. I have found it valuable to list a Technical Assessment at the front of the page. I've gotten rave reviews on this from many recruiters..

I do a lot of interviews and that format - as well as the one I use are good in my opinion. They are also able to be tweaked for any other junk you want to add on there. I'm "IT" as well, so it's nice to be able to quickly view what a person thinks they are good at and go from there.

                            ...
Besides format, the biggest one to me is the font used. If you use the old school fancy stuff, it's hard for a reviewer to just glance and get an idea of what you know. Stick with the arial/tahoma type fonts, it's easier on the eyes.

Try to get everything you really want them to know in the first page or two as well. I am guilty of having a 4 page resume - and I receive 4+ page resumes all the time. I never look past the first couple of pages. The only reason I leave mine 4 pages, is for when it gets further in the process - they maybe interested that I was in the Army for x amount of years, received medals, held clearances afterwards, spent 5+ years in dangerous areas doing the same work...blah blah blah. However, the first two or focused on the modern needs of companies and modern technologies. Last 2 are more for character purposes.
