You need to jack up the vehicle and get the tire off the ground. But a vehicle thats still can have all of the tire pressure gone and the tire will not break the bead.

It's really not a chain, but it works good.

I've inflated a tire that was so low, the PSI didn't even register and the bead was still not broken. Like Stephen said, though, lifting it off the ground would be the best process for properly securing the chains.

I have seen them used on Postal vehicles here in Denton.
            And Shepherds we shall be

For thee, my Lord, for thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand

Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.

So we shall flow a river forth to Thee

And teeming with souls shall it ever be.

max speed with chains is about 20-25mph atleast on large vehicles. definately good to have a set especially in dfw where they dont invest in plows to remove ice/snow

I got some chains on the expedition with 22's on it right now, but still can't get out of the snow.
Waiting on the plow to come knock down the 4 ft of snow blocking me in.

I got the same kit that 03 posted up, I heard they work well but I threw them on so I can get out of the city and take them off once I get near the highway.

Sure they do. They dig into the ice and give you traction. They aren't foolproof though, I mean you still won't have dry street traction.

When I lived in WA we used to run studded tires during the winter. 4 studded tires with 4wd is pretty damn close to perfect traction.

the autochains are going on all EMS and fire equipment lately, and is a pretty cool design. No chain on the tire, just a fast spinning chunk of chain clearing the road right under and in front of the drive wheels.

that said working on the underside of the truck next to those things is just plain scary.

The only bad part about that is the idea of getting stuck and having to dig out.

When I lived up in North Dakota, everyone had a set of studded winter tires. Down here they are illegal, but who the hell is going to write a ticket for that?

                            I wished I had some.

I had to stay home from work today because the wife took the Edge to her job and all I have is the 1997 F150 and the 2011 F150. I'm not wrecking either one of those.

I even tried to call USAA yesterday to put the 1997 on full coverage, but I would have had to pay for the entire 6 month period. F that.

Call another insurance place to cover it for full coverage then cancel once the bad weather is gone.
