  • Suggestions on a stand up computer desk?

I work mostly from home sitting in front of a computer for sometimes 10-12 hours a day and really need to look into buying an adjustable desk that I can switch from sitting on my fat ass to standing up as much as possible.

I remember hearing a commercial on the radio on the way to work of a store in Ft. Worth that sells something like this but I failed to jot it down. I'd prefer to buy one locally if possible but if I have to I'll order one online. Anyone ever use one before or have suggestions?

Sgt Bevis has something similar like this. Instead of just standing, he uses a fucking treadmill.

I have one at home, if you go to a stand up desk invest in a anti-fatigue mats/pad.

Anti-fatigue mats and comfort mats have been proven to increase productivity and decrease back, knee and neck injuries and soreness. We carry an extensive array of anti-fatigue mats for commercial, industrial and personal use.

If you can get your job to buy it, or if you don't mind spending the cash check these out.

I like the treadmill idea to burn a few calories, but what does just standing offer in terms of better health and or fitness as compared to sitting? Better circulation to the glutes I suppose, and good for the spine, but you are now shifting all the weight to your knees and ankles.

i get more pussy now than I ever did before since I moved to a stand up desk.

haha, the knees/ankle shift stopped for me once I got a fatigue pad. i've read a lot of benefits to it but who knows if that shit is true. I just wanted a stand up desk for when I didn't want to sit down at my other computer.

            Typically fat guy question:

Why would you want to stand up when there is an option to sit down?

I have been using a standup desk at work for about a year now. In addition to the fatigue mat, be sure you get a desk that lets you adjust the height. Measure from floor to elbow with your forearm parallel to the floor. You want your arms to hang loose at the desk, with your forearms just resting on the desk. Any higher and you'll have issues with headaches and tension.

It was a genuine question. I'm all for even the smallest steps towards a healthier happier life, though this seems to be one of the least impactful changes to be made, as compared to walking at lunch or after work.

Yep, guilty as charged. I'd work from bed if the Cheetos didn't clog up my keyboard so bad.

When I worked from home and switched from a sitting to standing or at least alternating, I would have more energy come 5pm then before where I was just sitting down.

They are in SkyMall magazine. I always see them when I fly and have nothing to read but that ridiculous magazine. They have some weird shit in there.

It's harder to have bad posture when you are standing. There's huge benefit to that. It took my legs and feet some time to adjust, though.

I have a large 3 sided desk, so for me it is sometimes easier to be on my feet than in a chair. That said, I do have a tall chair because having the option to sit down is a nice option to have.

Besides the fact that it's supposed to be better for your health not sitting on your ass all the time, I get tired of sitting down all the time. I find myself taking a break every hour or so and just walking around the house or doing something outside as a break. Back when I was tied to a phone and didn't have to type so much, I would stand up and pace around until I was finished with my call. That's about the only thing I miss from my old job.

Anyway, here's a quick list of Google search results.

Sorry not exactly what I was looking for.

Anybody else have any suggestions or links??
