when i first moved to fort worth me and a buddy rented a house right off hulen across from arlington hights highschool. we took a canoe out on como and were fishing the parts of the lake you cant reach from the bank and as im reeling in a little bass, a black guy stops on dam and yells at us to put the fish back in the water. a conservationist im thinking, he wants to promote the health of the local ecosystem and make sure it is fishable for generations! we tell him we are catching and releasing. he then tells us to take our white asses to lake worth, he then jumps in his purple donk, pulls what i assume was a hipoint and pops off three shots in the air. he only popped off three because his weapon jammed, or he ran out of ammo because he was still trying to pull the trigger as he attempted to peel out.. needless to say the fishing trip was over. we dumped the damn thing getting out and i lost a nice abu rod and reel. so if you decide to move there, ill give you 20 bucks if you find my rod.

If you want cheap and fairly safe but not exactly nice Haltom City. That's the Beach/Belknap area you mentioned. They used to have a bunch of Asian gangs that kept out most of the other crime, now it's mostly white trash and illegals. The police do a very good job of keeping it relatively safe and you can drive straight down Belknap to downtown without ever getting on a freeway.

Lots of stuff in HEB as well. Personally I'm partial to Benbrook but I don't want any gingers either.

Sean, I have no idea what your budget is, and that would dictate where I'd recommend to you. Tarrant County is like Dallas in that it's always been a mixed bag of developments, with Section 8 housing going up right next door to beautiful country club neighborhoods.

I've lived in Watauga (aka north Fort Worth) for seven years now because it was cheap. It has been a reasonably safe place to live too, as I'm not aware of any break-ins along my block the entire time I've been here. The police department is a quarter mile from my house and that may have something to do with it. I talk to the cops pretty often and they spend more time running radar and busting people for DUI than any kind of real crime. It is 60% rental property so take that for what it's worth.

If that is too ghetto for you, I would strongly consider Benbrook. There is some nice property there that is still reasonably priced - but won't be for much longer.

For kids in school I would avoid getting to far out with schools demanding internet access for homework ect. There's plenty to do in just about every direction. I live off n tarrant and 35 and can be in Denton, downtown, or grapevine in 20 min or so. The construction on the highways suck but they are ahead of schedule and once you learn the back roads it isn't much if any longer

Take into account, the construction that will be begining on 35 between 820 and 30. Suppose to start this year. 183 and 121 area is nice and will get you to other areas fast.

There is also the Chisolm Trail pkwy, granted it is a toll road but it's pretty convenient when going from Burleson to downtown. Traffic on 35 to Burleson SUCKS at rush hour every day.

I live in north fort worth by the BNSF HQ. Nice area, but you are fucked if you try to go any where around noon and 1800 when a freaking thousand cars come out of BNSF.

16.6 cents per mile with a tolltag, 50% more without. If you did the entire length of the finished road it'd be under $5 each way. On the weekends for me it's not worth it but if I'm in a hurry it's a good option.
