  • Hydraulic cylinders... Thread may belong in garage

Anyone rebuilt hydraulic cylinders? How difficult is it? Some things I've read say it is pretty straight forward, others say the raping you take on having it done professionally is worth it. And does anyone have a good source for hydraulic hoses? I can't seem to find repros/OEM replacements for what I need, so I think my only choice is to pull them off and take them somewhere to have them custom made.

If your hoses are tractor/construction equipment with JIC, pipe, tube, or o-ring face up to 3/4" i.d. I can do them. What I can't do, I send to Stuart. As for rebuilding cylinders I've used CBX Hydraulics for many years.

You're speaking greek, but I'll come see you after my next trip to the farm. Thanks Jimmy!

Jimmy, can you lengthen an a/c hose also?

Well, I try not to touch a/c hoses but depending on the type of hose, maybe. I don't mind looking at it.

Any lengthening I can do would be in the rubber section only. It would require cutting and adding a new section of rubber and using two unions. It would be ugly as shit. If it's just a simple non-manifold style hose with male/female flare or male/female o-ring, straight, 90, or 45 at each end, it's easier just to make a new hose. I can still get the fittings and have an impact style beadlock crimper.

If it requires any use of the old fittings where they have to be cut off to be reused, I have Stuart do that for me. I pretty much have them do all my a/c hoses now just because I quit keeping the fittings and got too busy to do them.

Nah, it's a pretty simple hose, new, just made about 10" short. Ill find some time to run it up to you when things slow down a bit. I dont have time to work on it anyway.

If its a simple hydraulic cylinder they are easy to replace seals in. It just depends on the type.

Rebuilding cylinders is easy as long as your not dealing with a rusted/pitted inner surface. Depending on what type of cylinder you have I might be able to furnish parts. We have a crimper with about 50 different dies so if Jimmy can't get you fixed up I might be able to. I'm in south Ft Worth.

If you do have some pits in the actual ram of the cylinder itself. I polish them out as best as you can, that it usually the cause for seals having rips in them.

If you cant fix it, as im sure you can unless its really jacked up. This is where i buy mine if i can.
