  • Haven't been to reddit?

With people in the picture thread saying "i've never been to reddit", etc, etc, I'm wondering: Why?

I've got my subs set up so I only see what I want to, and not the annoying ones like atheism, awwww, and funny.

With the massive amount of news linked to it from around the globe, extremely specific sub sections to just random ones. . . whats the reason for avoiding it?

I have enough sites to waste time on as it is.

because it's another subculture thing that some people like and some dont. just like FB, myspace, internet forums, newsgroups, mailing lists, etc.

I typically limit myself to the front page, f7u12, and atheism for the meme pictures.

Edit: I don't have an account, I just lurk.

Eh, not avoiding it, just don't see a reason to go.

What I like about this board is that it's mostly local, I'm friends with several members, and I've been here a long time, so it's comfortable and homey. I assume that the size and variety over on Reddit would just be more than I need, and perhaps a little overwhelming. As mentioned, between this place and FB, and a couple of other specialized boards, my free time stays plenty occupied.

Same here (except for FB), I spend most of my free time here. Between the drama threads, FTP threads, NSFW, PM's from other MODS of people crying, I stay pretty busy, no need to be on a giant board of assholes from around the country/world...

Reddit is a great source for news but you have to mentally filter out some of it. During the last Fort Hood shooting I was getting live intel from my wife when the phones were up and Reddit was 10-15 minutes behind. Which was a good hour+ ahead of mass media. Lots of soldiers on base apparently post anonymously.

Facebook had the alert info but nothing specific other than the base was locked down. Their III Corp page and Fort Hood Area Events page are pretty good but they are filtered through command. Reddit isn't. I'm sure there was some stuff on twitter but it's a little to easy to identify the source there.

Truth. Especially political news. I do read sources known to lean left, just to get the opposing view and be more educated overall. But I immediately reject anything from DailyKOS so much that I won't even read those articles/links.
