Actually I wouldn't mind hearing this stat. I have yet to see one get blood drawn that was not two or three times the legal limit. I am sure you can find a couple of cases but I doubt it is over a single digit stat. I would bet that some of those could be diabetics, and new officers.
Just like the percentage of bad cops is negligible?
I had a scuffle on FB with some broad on the DFW Scanner feed a couple of days ago after she started complaining that Texas doesn't have DUI checkpoints. Her and some other moron from NY both literally said with all sincerity "If you don't have anything to hide you have nothing to worry about." Talk about missing the fucking point.
They damn sure do have checkpoints. I passed one on 303 last year going to your house.

Had this argument t last week with a retired cop that was trying to theorize that cops were good 30 years ago and good now by default. He further continued that access to cameras showcase the bad apples. Of which, there appear to be tons.
When I said that we were currently a soft police state, he claimed offense and touted how free we are compared to other countries, while having no experience beyond policing a small town in Oregon. He also told me that America needs so many police because of the freedoms we have. Chew on that for a bit.

Those are "license and insurance" checkpoints. Arlington has been doing them since the 90's. In '99 I was in my HCI '87 Hatch on Centerline Autodrag fats and skinnies, dumps, camming like a mofo and rolled up to one. Every cop there stopped what they were doing and stared me down. Huge black cop walked to the front to make sure I had a front plate, looked at my good license, insurance, registration, and very well done fake inspection sticker, asked me if I built the car myself, then let me pass while all the other cops continued to watch, just itching to be the one to get to write me a ticket. I gave it some pretty good gas in first leaving, then toned it down so as not to break the speed limit. I had a huge grin on my face the rest of the day.
My favorite part of all that is how you have to make the case that rape and murder are the same as DUI. I guess we should also forcibly take samples if someone drops a fudge dragon in a urinal too.

What's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?

Voting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

You know, there is the off chance that most cops are car guys also. Just sayin negative nelly!
Just did some quick Google Fu and read several different things that said Texas considers them illegal and unconstitutional. That stuff was all dated 2011 or older. Then I came across an article written last week specifically about Tarrant County and the no refusal holiday weekend, and it talked about how they would have "sobriety checkpoints" set up on area roadways. So, either they changed the laws in the past few years, or they can make exceptions during certain times. Seems pretty fickle to me. I don't like the idea of being stopped and checked with no probable cause. I also don't like the idea that I could be .09 and driving completely safely and still get popped for it. And the idea of someone sticking me with a needle and drawing my blood without my consent in a situation like that sure doesn't sit well with me.
