  • Credit Karma...

...is a fucking joke. I used them a year or so ago to check my credit. Every now and then they will send you an email with "information" about your credit score or inquiries.

I got one last night that said my score was like a 624. I'm like WTF? so I go to www.annualcreditreport.com and pull everything, including paying a little bit for my real score from the actual bureaus associated.

They are well over 100 points off for each. It's a ploy to get you to log in and pay additional or something like that. I've seen several people over time here say it's the best site, when in fact they are full of shit. They even said I had two new collection accounts, which was bullshit as well.

I have never tried any of those sites. I knew one way or other they were bullshit. They don't exist for nothing, and there is some kind of money motivation behind its existence.

If I were to care what my actual score was and wanted to monitor it I would choose to use one of my credit card companies programs to do it. Citi, Discover, Chase, Amex etc... something reputable and that I would feel wasn't using the service to try and make money some way or other off me.

I've used them for awhile too but I've definitely noticed how off their score is. My credit card gives me my credit score with each statement and it's always different than credit karma's.

I have used credit karma for at least a year as well as credit sesame. Combined it allowed me to monitor 2 out of the 3 bureaus for free. I check my report for free annually and everything credit karma has reported has been accurate.

Funny, I checked them out a few weeks ago and they reported my score at 129 pts lower than when I checked through another site in January. The only difference between now and then is one hard credit check from refinancing the car in March, and increased credit limits on a few accounts.

I have been using it for over a year and have found no issues thus far, and it's accurate. I have my score from one of my CC's as well and they might be within 1 or 2 points of each other at most.

From someone who pulls actual credit reports for a living, only use myFico.com.

I've heard, "credit karma had me 730 last week." Then I pull a tri merge actual credit report and it's 645, 680, 659 from all three bureaus.

Most free places offer a credit score based off of a credit score model/simulator.

The score from those sites are not real either.
Go to Myfico.com and buy your scores. These are the score that 90% of lenders use

The fact that your score is similar to your real score (assuming you compared to a fico score from Myfico.com), is purely coincidental. The credit karma score is completely worthless. Your actual fico score may be 100 points higher or lower or in your case, right on. It's all bs. Credit Karmas only real benefit is for monitoring changes such as a new inquiry or account etc
Same for credit sesame, freecreditreport.com, and every other score

Credit scores should be free once year with credit report. It's your score, use it when you want to.

This would only work if there was a mandate for how to calculate your score. The reason all these scores are different is because they are all taking the same data from your reports and then applying their own formula to come up with a score.
Fico is an independent company who's (according to lenders) formula is the most accurate at determining risk. They are the choice company to use by lenders and since their product (complex credit score algorithm) is superior to all others, shouldn't they be paid for it?

My wife has received the same bogus emails from credit karma. I just pulled her's on myfico, on your recommendation, and it's exactly where we thought it should be so, thanks for the heads up.

I'd like to pull mine there as well, but after what may already be a "hard" inquiry, I'd prefer not to.

                              Thanks again.
