Actually yes. That was gonna be my next suggestion. That or like a floating fountain. Would think you'd loose more water to evaporation.

Maybe in a very small pool. We threw about six full coolers of ice into a buddys pool and it dropped the temp all of about 1-2 degrees

You do, but it works well. I keep my fountains going all season, and it keeps the water about 10 degrees cooler. We have to add more water, though.
