child support and student loans

Could really use some info. I already pay $1300 a month in child support for 2 kids. Due to this, I have not been able to pay my student loans and am in default. Just got a letter that says my wages will be garnished for student loan repayment. Is there a max than can be garnished? I won't be able to get by with 2 garnishments. Thanks in advance, and yes I know I need to pay all my debts. Only make approx $51,000.

Creditboards.com. There is a student loan section there. Read and ask questions. You can also get the rehabbed so they aren't killing your credit score

Do you have a good relationship with your ex? Maybe she can help you reduce the cs through the court or something.

Admittedly I've never been in either situation so I'm just throwing an idea out there without knowing it will stick.

So about $3k a month take home. Damn, $1300 off the top doesn't leave much.

$1300/month seems pretty steep for 2 kids and $51K/yr. Unless you aren't providing health insurance.

You need to call them. They are very willing to work with you. Way more than any bank or other creditor

I think the POTUS was putting together a bill to cap federal(not private) student loan payments at not more than 10% of wages, and also to be written down after 10 or 20 years.
You'll have to verify, but this was only a couple weeks back when I heard it.

and also I was hearing that Federal student loan interest rate was expected to rise a touch soon.

I only listened with one ear as student loans are many years past for me. College tuition was in the Mid-$2000 range per year, and actually I recall my rates were somewhere in the 6-7% range just after college.

I was able to pay off my student loans in about 2 years, but I had to continue living like a college student to get it done. I was stilll living in a boarding house for $150 per month and utilities were included.
