Too late now but the insurance company does not dictate where you take it no matter how much they will make it sound like you have to take it to a certain shop. It is your truck and you right to take it where you want and they still have to pay that shop.
As for frame damage replaced or repaired its the kiss of death if you try to trade it and it come up on any cax fax or autocheck service. Only way to ever get anything out of it sell it to an invividual that is willing to pay for a frame swapped truck. My biggest concern is the amount of the estimate. Most of the frame work is considered mechanical labor and ever at whored out DRP rates thats going to be at least 70.00 per hour. Even overlooking 1/2 of what needs to be done its going to be 50-60 hours to swap a bare frame not including the price of the frame, bumper and other mis parts. I just don't see how the estimate is not at least $6000-6500.00
What you need to is get your wife to go talk to the body shop manager. Tell her to tell him her husband is a tech geek engineer type. Make sure he knows you will be checking the torque on every nut and bolt, every clip hose and cable will be checked against a factory assembly manual and you will bringing it back over and over until its right.
He will hate the future thought of dealing with you and your estimate might just go up a little. :wink1:
