  • Need help for myself this time

Long story short, I have been dealing with a home warranty company and their contractor for 3+ weeks about getting my AC fixed. I have been fortunate enough to be able to stay with family while my ac is out but that is coming to an end.

I need to find the best deal on good sized window unit. The warranty company has agreed to reimburse me $150 for one but that doesn't buy a whole lot. I would like to find a 7000-8000btu unit. Only problem is that I have to get a receipt for it so going out on CL and picking one up is a no go.

Anyone working where they can get me a new, reconditioned or open-box type of unit at a good price?

Shop Sears for appliances, tools, clothing, mattresses & more. Great name brands like Kenmore, Craftsman Tools, Serta, Diehard and many others.

Couldnt you buy one, submit receipt, then return said unit and buy one on CL ?

sounds like a lot of work....

I used to do work for American Home Shield and can tell you first hand that a home warranty is totally worthless. Good luck dealing with them.

Try Amazon for the best price on a window unit.
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

I had AHS on my old house, and it paid off when my water heater blew and my AC went out.

I've had AHS since we moved into this place 8 years ago. They've covered a full garage door replacement, a water heater replacement, repairing the gas furnace, and several trips to fix small a/c related issues (recharge Freon, fix leaks, etc.). In an older house, I wouldn't do it without a home warranty. They have gone up pretty dramatically on their service call fee though. It's doubled, from $30 to $60, since I've been with them.

It's not so much the warranty company as much as the contractor. With that said, the last couple of days the lady handling my claim as earned my ire and I will be escalating my issues past her and making a complaint.

The warranty was included with the sale of the house so I'm not going to comment as to the value.

I really need one by tomorrow and dealing with USPS(it will inevitably be handed to them) is not something I want to stack on to this clusterfuck.

This house is 45ish years old so yeah, I'm glad it came with a warranty.

Between the local Sears outlets, you should be able to find the unit I posted above at one of them. There's one in Addison, and one in Tarrant County somewhere.

Yeah I'll stop by there on my way home and see, their site said something about that one being in NY but maybe I can find one at one of their local stores.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Where are you located? I have a spare unit you can borrow. It will cool a bedroom.

FYI - most larger units are 220v and won't fit in a standard window. So measure before you buy.
