Freedom isn't free. I'd rather my neighbor park his car on the lawn or build his shed out of recycled lumber than to have some asshole always breathing down my neck for every little thing.

Yep, right up until you go to sell your place . You soon find how much you care about what the neighbors are doing .

I dislike HOA's too but, there needs to be a middle of the road somewhere

I agree with this. I hate it too but some people need to be in check.

I moved out of a neighborhood when I started seeing bbq grills being permanently placed in front yards.

I used to live in a brand new neighborhood without an hoa. One home owner out of about 30 homes was a complete slob. Dude had shit everywhere. Trailers and cars parked in his yard and the empty lots next to his. Hoa went in to place and he finally cleaned up his act. Also got a community pool installed. That hoa was not ran by Nazis.

The problem with HOAs is that the people in charge, are the people with control issues and inferiority complexes.

I will agree to that as well.

We have this woman on some board in charge of just about everything. When people got pissed at the way she was handling things, she took her ball and went home.

No more 4th of July parade, no more social gatherings this year. Shit got real on the neighborhood Facebook page.

Exactly and typically nothing else to do in their boring day but play with their "authority." I've seen really good people leave hoods all due to stupid HOA crap.

I love hoas...keeps value up and encourages people to care.

If you don't like the people running the hoa, boot them out and get elected yourself.

My brother has had all sorts of trouble with his HOA in Colleyville. He didn't submit his new windows for approval, didn't submit his new front door for approval, etc. We're talkin about a neighborhood that ranges from $500,000-$1.5 million. While money =/= taste, come the fuck on... It's not like he painted his house easter egg purple or anything. It looks so much better than it did previously. And from what I know, they didn't even have a problem with the style. It's the fact that he got fined for not submitting it for approval prior to putting them in.

I'm sure it is like not paying your HOA dues, and they can seize the property.

Those who don't bother themselves with reading (where applicable) their HOA bylaws prior to their home purchase and then bitch and whine about unfair the HOA is afterward are comical. Almost as much so as those who don't bother reading and understanding the terms of their loan documents before signing and then cry about having been taken advantage of by the lender.

I understand what you are saying. Neighbors can really suck. My last house wasn't in an HOA and I had to deal with that kind of thing when I sold my house. I live in the country now, so I have the freedom to do whatever and not have to worry about an HOA. Fortunately, I don't have any neighbors that want to build something that destroys property values.

exactly... a homeowner down the street from us, and happens to be the first house off the main st, attempted to get a huge ass green house approved...for a freaking banana tree farm. His reasoning... "he's from Hawaii and wanted to feel like he was "home"". We're talking about some 30 x 40ish green house. Thankfully he wanted to build into the easement and some nosey neighbors picked up on the info from the city zoning committee and spread the word for other neighbors to go protest.
