I was wondering if you would have to reimburse for the chopper ride as well. Man, there is a huge difference in body language between those two pics.

@Talisman, I'm guessing that people who put themselves in bad spots by being idiots tend to be the ones to get rescue bills. I'm just really thankful we didn't get charged, we are all already hurting from loss of equipment.
@Jose yeah definitely a couple lessons learned, it was quite the experience.

Just an update, still haven't found our equipment, however we have talked to a couple land owners (who have been extremely compassionate and helpful) and we may have access to a couple areas that our yaks may be tangled up in. Still however I am sure some of our stuff ended up in the lake, any and all help will be appreciated. Photos of kayak and equipment in link.
We also got new information regarding water levels during our flood. Normal water levels on the river for this time of year are 50-100 CFS (Cubic Feet per Second) and was actually around 120 for most of our trip pre-flood. Water level in the photo in the above link is 150,000 CFS which means the water came up 148,xxx in the span of around two hours. To give some perspective one of the guys on the crew was a white water rafting guide in North Carolina for a while, and he said when it would rain for a week straight the water would come up approx 20,000 CFS, at which point they would stop running the river.Last edited by Danny46; 06-29-2014, 12:50 PM.

Eric, not to answer for Danny but my brother and his son had to be rescued by a Coast Guard Helicopter due to a sudden severe storm while out boating years ago and when it was all done my brother asked if he should be expecting a bill, to which they replied 'No sir.... your tax dollars have you covered.'
Conversely, LifeFlight will send ya a bill for sure!
Edit.... my comprehension eluded me for a sec...

Thanks man, we have actually been in contact with some land owners and they have been compassionate, and are giving us river access via their property. This is significant. I beleive well be going down in two weeks for a search and recovery effort.
