I used to play when I was young, my son has been playing for 12 years now.

It's not for everyone especially when your friends don't enjoy it also.

Two of my employees are foreign nationals (Republic of Georgia and Macedonia). World Cup is all I hear about right now. We have a 60" TV in the front office that they sit and watch highlights from the previous day games and at night they stay up until 3am watching the games live.

        I am soccer'd out!
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

I watch the 5 pm game at work. I stream it off ESPN. go the watch espn page and it will throw up a pop up with your cable subscriber. You have to log into your cable page and then it will show ESPN.

This year has been really good. Especially Mexico. Who would have thought out of three games played they've only allowed one goal. Especially with Brazil in their group.

If it's not a combat sport, I have a really hard time getting interested.

How does someone get interested in a sport that has more athletes flopping than the NBA?

food for thought: are we bandwaggoners, or just excited we have waited 4 yrs for it to come around again? I dont go around talking about the olymipics all the time, but i certainly watch them when they come around.

                      god bless.

I've always laughed when someone throws out the "bandwagoners" term. It's normally the people that are die hard fans of whatever, and get upset when people pay attention when it starts getting exciting.

Kinda like the Cowboys: I want to follow them and be a fan, but they havent been good since I was in elementary school. Ill be a fan if/when they dont suck. I guess that makes me a bandwagoner to some, or a normal, rationally thinking human to others.

All three of my kids have played soccer their entire lives and have one in college on a ride so we watch a ton of soccer. I enjoy it and have come to love the sport.

Give it another 10 years and I bet it will be more of mainstream sport than you think.

When I grew up in the 70's soccer for kids was unheard of- it was only the big three (baseball, basketball, and football). Look where its at today for the youth- I would say there are more kids playing soccer than the others.

I think it will start gaining popularity here because of the head injuries in football, and all the arm injuries in baseball. That said, I just don't have the attention span to continue to watch something where there is a good chance that after 90 minutes the score might still be tied at 0.

Apparently, soccer players get lots of head injuries too. But it just doesn't get publicized in the US as much.
