  • Need reccomendation for transmission rebuild

A buddy just called and said the transmission on his 2009 GMC Arcadia went out today. It only has 75K miles on it and it's just a regular 'ol daily driver, so Lord only knows why the transmission would go out so soon. Anyway, he got a quote from a place near us for like $3K which sounded a little high to me. We live in the Lake Highlands area of NE Dallas - near LBJ and Skillman.

Can anyone recommend a transmission shop in and/or around NE Dallas? Also, does $3K sound reasonable? I haven't ever had to have a tranny rebuilt on a newer car so I don't have a clue.

    Thanks.

I was quoted almost twice that for the rebuild on my 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 transmission rebuild. If I didn't trade it in it would have been cheaper to find a solid used one out of a junk yard. You might look into that.

Call Davey at I 35 transmission in Lancaster. He is the straightest shooting tranny guy I have ever met.

"Went out" could mean lots of things and they don't all automatically mean you need another trans. It could be something as simple as a speed sensor or solenoid. $3k isn't a bad price btw, my cost is around $2800 plus shipping.

If you want to read the Gears article on the 6T70E. As noted it's real similar to the 6F50, mechanically they are almost identical. They are usually pretty reliable transmissions, it's the electronics that give problems. Unlike that POS CVT they used for a few years.

They are still really expensive because most aftermarket builders are scared to tear into one. That and most shops still haven't bought into any kind of programming hardware.
