It's just going to be the two of us and the dogs this time. Jared's going later again this year.

Forest/Chili, did either of you drive up there last year when the fires were going on?

We usually stay on the Loop on the way up to Engineer's pass the whole time. Not in a campground, just in the BLM land, dispersed. No hookups, bathrooms, water. We go down to LC every other day or so to fill up water, shower, pick up any necessities.
But this year we have a roof top tent and intend to be more mobile. It's just Leah and I, and our dogs, so we can get away with a lot less gear. I'm thinking 2-3 days on the loop then check out some new spots up in the Taylor Park / Crested Butte area. North / Northeast from Gunnison.
We've stayed on the loop 3 times before, I think it was 2009, 2010 & 2012. So this year we are excited about staying somewhere new.
We'll probably head up on the 2nd or 3rd. The goal is to be in Lake City for the 4th of July parade and festivities, then we probably won't be in town there again, other than passing through on the way up to the other spots. We'll likely head back this way around the 11th.
Some friends may end up buying a place around LC, so we expect to visit more in the future. Leah and I both absolutely love it up there, and would like to live up there someday.
