  • GM recalling 500k new Camaros

    Ouch.

General Motors is recalling more cars for problems with ignition switches.

GM is recalling nearly 512,000 Chevrolet Camaro muscle cars from the 2010 to 2014 model years. A driver's knee can bump the key and knock the switch out of the "run" position, causing an engine stall.

That knocks out power steering and brakes and could cause drivers to lose control.

GM says it knows of three crashes and four minor injuries from the problem.

GM says the Camaro switches met its specifications — unlike the switches at the center of a recall of 2.6 million small cars. That problem has caused more than 50 crashes and at least 13 deaths.

The Camaro key is concealed in the Fob like a switchblade. GM will replace it with a straight design.

They should have been recalled for their looks.

I think I like the newer versions better than the 2010s.

I think it's hilarious that every GM recall gets posted here, and none of the Ford recalls do.

Not whining, just a comical observation. They recalled 700,000 yesterday, and 1.4 million last week. not a peep.

On the subject of faulty ignition switches, my '06 Explorer had a problem. I'd bump it with my knee while driving and the motherfucking driver seat would move all the way up. Now that was some unexpected and crazy shit to happen to a tall guy driving down the road. It must have had something to do with the saved positions you could program into different key fobs. Never did get it fixed, but it happened a few times.

Here's a look at some of the latest safety recalls announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

Toyota is recalling certain 2014 Highlander and Highlander hybrid vehicles in which the front passenger seat belt may not operate properly. Up to 50,000 vehicles are involved in the recall. The Japanese automaker also is recalling 2.27 million vehicles worldwide for a glitch in the front passenger airbag system. It involves about 20 models.

Ford and Chrysler also have several recent recalls, NHTSA data shows. Ford is recalling more than 740,000 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles, model years 2008 to 2011, for a possible problem with the power steering assist. Ford also is recalling certain 2010 to 2014 Taurus vehicles in cold-weather states because road salt may corrode the license plate lamp assembly. More than 183,000 vehicles are involved. In addition, another 179,000 vehicles are being recalled by Ford. This recall is for the Ford Explorer, model years 2011 to 2013, and it also involves a potential flaw with the power steering system.

Chrysler is recalling nearly 18,000 Ram ProMaster vehicles, model year 2014. The affected vehicles may experience circuit corrosion from water intrusion around the in-floor battery cover and door footwell trim. Also from Chrysler, more than 6,000 Dodge Durangos, Jeep Grand Cherokees and Jeep Cherokees, all 2014 models, are being recalled. The potential problem involves the cruise control and could lead to unintended acceleration. Chrysler also is recalling more than 4,000 2013 and 2014 Fiat 500e Battery Electric Vehicles. There is the possibility of a coolant leak that could result in a short circuit.
When the government pays, the government controls.
