  • How many think that the troops are really fighting for our freedom?

As the title says...what are your feelings on this?

I honestly wouldn't say it's for freedom...maybe quality of life. If they were fighting for my freedom I wouldn't be losing my freedoms so rapidly.

Don't you like how propaganda works? Soldiers haven’t fought for our freedom since the1800’s.

They are fighting for your freedom in the sense of an interventionist foreign policy. Meaning that world wars start out as regional wars which start out as individual wars. Look at what is happening in Iraq today, if you let the blow up too big then someone can end up invading the USA. I don't favor intervening in every war or anything like that but I also don't favor isolationism.

This is bullshit. If you don't think that the Axis powers would have invaded the US homeland at first opportunity, you may be smoking crack.

In the war of 1812 the British invaded the Northern US, Southern Louisiana and also sacked Washington DC.

Then we fight them on our beaches. Fact is they wouldn't have become as powerful as they did without backing by certain high powered people in the US. They also wouldn’t have been able to fly their planes without the additives that they were buying from Standard Oil.

Big fucking deal. Up until a certain point the Nazis were perfectly acceptable and did business with everyone. It wasn't a conspiracy, they were just assholes. We do business with plenty of assholes today.

But none of that has anything to do with you saying soldiers haven't fought for our freedom since the 1800s. That is bullshit and you need to get your head out of your ass.

Sorry, but imperialism and intervention has been the major cause of conflict throughout the world. It is the major cause of problems in the Middle East now. We wouldn’t have the problems that we do now with Iraq if we hadn’t backed Saddam. The same policies that sent Egypt and Libya into tail spins are what caused problems with Iran in the 50’s.

There have been 4 invasions in our history.

The british (rev. War) then the british (war of 1812), japan in ww2, and now the mexicans (2014).

I was going to say WWII, but then I thought on it a little more. We're fighting in the Middle East to keep the shit over there from getting worse and coming over here.

I agree that we don't need to run other countries and don't need to put assholes in charge of other countries, but we also don't need to let assholes run amok.

Yes, I believe we fight for American freedom. You don't have to worry about Japan invading here though the Russians are getting uppity again.
