    FORT SMITH, ARK. — The National Guard says an artillery shell fired by a Missouri Army National Guard unit during training at Fort Chaffee landed near a home in Franklin County.

    No injuries are reported but the home was damaged.

    The Guard says the 1st Battalion, 129th Field Artillery Regiment of Maryville, Missouri, was conducting a live-fire exercise when the incident occurred Thursday afternoon.

    Arkansas National Guard Maj. Matt Snead told the Times Record that officials at Fort Chaffee were contacted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office about 6 p.m. after a woman returned to her home and found it and her garage damaged by shrapnel from the round.

    Officials from Fort Chaffee, the Arkansas National Guard and the Missouri National Guard are investigating and the unit was ordered to stop training.

                      We were at Ft. Sill one year shooting our cannon and the guard was training, they sent a 155 round off base near a neighborhood. Another time the MRLS went hay wire and they were dropping in on the range we were one.

                            While I'm not defending the guard fuck up, you can recognize the difference between abuse of power and an accident, right? I bet the Army will pay for it too, not leave the homeowner on the hook.

                              No one could have been physically hurt searching a car.
                              That shell/shrapnel could have ended someone's like, or bound them to a wheel chair for the rest of their life. Being an accident doesn't make me want to brush it off.
                              Thats the kind of shit someone's career/job/commission needs to end over.

                              And if it was a cop, people would be calling for the book to be thrown at them as an example.
