          What kingjason said... Nope.

Just returns what the info on the vehicle and the registered owner I believe.

not sure why he edited his post but this is kind of what I was getting at. How many times on average does the officer initiating the stop, look up owner, then DL etc before walking up to the car? This is not a question meant to say "FTP they can't do any of that" but just an honest question.

They can, but doing a comprehensive check takes too long for a minor traffic infraction. Besides, DOB isn't included in the LP return, so you'd have to do a name only search on the DL query and sift through all the possibilities. It's easier to walk up and ask for DL.

What if the car has a dealer plate? Does it simply display the company's DBA?

Depends on where you are, and who runs it, apparently:

Following our public records request (actually, on the same day) the Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MDTA) posted the following statement on their FaceBook Page: In response to a recent complaint about the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police and a Jan. 12, 2014, Tampa Tribune article, a preliminary review indicates that all proper protocols were followed […]

I was hoping you didn't quote me that fast, I didn't feel like explaining the other comment to the tin foil hat people. Yes I can get to that point but it takes a while doing a blind search. Two man unit maybe could pull it off faster but by no means is it a fast process. Plus a name like John Smith you would be SOL. In Texas no one gives a *^$% about CHL's. Its just not a normal practice but yes if I had a minute I could run a plate, kind of sort a run blind search on the registered owner. A lot of things have to align perfectly though or it really doesn't work.
