Don't forget stuff, or buy it at the airport when you land... The "store/gift shop" at the last resort I stayed at wanted ~$30USD for a small bottle of sunscreen lol...

One steward will usually have two assistants and they'll handle one section of the ship, which means maybe 50 or so cabins. They clean the cabins, make the beds, pickup food trays and keep the bar stocked. When not doing this they'll be regular staff on the ship. Depending on the steward and ship they can basically be a concierge as well.

I mean clean. When you get up and go to breakfast your bed will usually be made when you come back and the bathroom will be spotless.

To the OP. I don't know you so don't take this the wrong way. Stay away from any illegal drugs, don't associate with anyone that looks like they may have any and don't try to buy any. Scoring a bag of weed here isn't a big deal, asking a bartender down there for some might end up with you either going to jail or getting kidnapped and or murdered. Almost all of the violent crime there is related to the drug trade. Stay away from that and you should be fine. Aside from other stupid things like walking around with a gold Rolex or wads of cash.

I'd also strongly advise against driving anything. If you do get into an accident it'll be your fault and you'll have to pay for the damages right there and then. The locals drive like crap, their cars are garbage and there are donkeys everywhere. Cabs are very cheap, tour buses are even cheaper.

I've been twice, stayed at this place http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Peninsula.html it's kid free, that's why we picked it. Bring some tip money and you'll be fine. I wanna say most night clubs you pay one price, like say 20-30 bucks to get in and most drinks are included. You'll have a blast.

We are staying at the Riu Palace in Puerto Vallarta in a few weeks. I have always enjoyed the Yucatan peninsula but like to try other places. Last year we went to Punta Cana.

No, it's the guy that cleans the room and is generally your contact if you need anything.

When you're getting drinks, ask for top shelf. It is included, but if you don't ask they give you well shit. Don't be afraid to walk around.
If you are asking me I am going to stay at the Valentin Imperial Maya this time. I only go to all inclusive and as long as my son is so young I go for adults only which this one is. I will take him on his own vacation this summer as well to a place that he will appreciate much more. Daddy needs some r&r.

Reading and deciding was hard. There are so many different places. I would find one with a good rating then start reading the reviews. Some would say great place and the next would say how much it sucked. Lots of differences in opinions.
We are going there this weekend.

I went there for a week a couple years ago. I've never been to Meixco so I can't compare it but we had a great time. It was very nice.

I have been to 4 different places down there in the same area. I have been to this one once before. I really enjoyed it last time so I am hoping for the same again.

I went on a cruise to Cozumel and Progresso and I thought it blew, IMO. Mexico's a shithole, especially those two places. The highlight of the trip, however was getting a "60 dollar" rope hammock chair for 10 bucks and a Detroit Tigers hat i stole from my little brother a couple years ago. I was stoked about that deal, because similiar rope hammock chairs around here are usually 100 bucks or so. I'm thinking our next trip south will be to Costa Rica. But it'll be a while, Europe is next on our vacation list.

Progresso is a dump. You basically just need to stay on the beach and that little mall at the dock.

We did swimming with the dolphins in COzumel so i didn't get to see much of cozumel.

Go swim in the Cenotes as one of your excursions. Awesome stuff.

I like cozumel, just waiting for the kids to be big enough to drop with grandma and we're headed back.

My wife was excited to do the dolphin training deal, and I thought it would be cool. It was OK for me, and she was giddy, and really liked it. The trainer guy we were with kept giving me instructions and having me do the commands, and I kept telling him to have her do it. Apparently he was quite sexist, so we had to switch trainers mid day.

Yeah, because you really get a feel for Mexico by spending an hour in the cruise line's predetermined tourist spots. LMFAO!

I've done an all-inclusive resort vacation - once. Maybe mine was just a crappy experience, but I would prefer to pick out my own place to stay and eat the local food. It would have been great if all I wanted to do was sit in the swim-up bar all day while swilling cheap drinks and gorging myself on hot dogs and nacho cheese. But that's not my idea of a fun time. I'm sure there's some redeeming qualities about all-inclusive vacations but you're leaving your vacation experience up to someone else.

We have stayed at the Occidental Grand Xcaret 3 times, very nice place. Be sure and go next door to the Xcaret archeological park. You can also catch a cab to Playa Del Carmen about 15 minutes down the road.
