  • booked an all inclusive vacation....first time

Booked an all inclusive resort place vacation for the wife and I for next month. We are goin to Cancun. I think Ive been to Cancun before as a stop on a cruise ship but never done the all inclusive before. Not sure what to expect.

We are wanting to do some excursions and venture outside of the resort some but arent sure if this is safe? Also anyone have an advice on where or how to book excursions? The site we booked the trip through had some but they were crazy expensive. I would think they would be a little more affordable being Mexico. Not sure if we should just wait till we get there and pay cash to do whatever excursion we decide.

    Thanks

Trips off property are safe as long as you are with a reputable company. Check with the concierge and book the excursions through the onsite sales staff. They aren't cheap but most are all inclusive as well.

I wouldn't worry about anything in Cancun. Other MX destinations I would, but not around Cancun due to location.

Take pictures of the Open Carry Mexico protesters.

I just booked mine as well. Going to spend a week in the riveria maya. You cant go wrong with an all inclusive. Just take a hundo or two worth of singles to tip the wait staff.

Yup. Go see the Chichen-Itza Mayan Ruins. It's incredible. You can book through the hotel. What hotel are you staying at, btw? Don't bother the cops with machine guns. When you're getting drinks, ask for top shelf. It is included, but if you don't ask they give you well shit. Don't be afraid to walk around.

Staying at the Occidental Grand Xcaret. It looked pretty good and had 10 restaurants on resort.

Reading and deciding was hard. There are so many different places. I would find one with a good rating then start reading the reviews. Some would say great place and the next would say how much it sucked. Lots of differences in opinions.

Most of the time people are either either expecting more than what they paid for and give a bad or mediocre review, or were expecting it to be a crapshoot and had a good time, and then leave a good review. IVe never had much faith in bad reviews or good ones, for that matter.

I think most cruise lines just add a gratuity to your bill nowadays. Thats what they did on my carnival cruise in april.

I still tipped my room guy cause he was a bad ass, though.

I haven't stayed at that one, but DJ nailed it pretty much. I have this problem on Trip Advisor all the time. People zero in on something minor and make their entire review about how terrible the place was because of it. The internet is getting infected with that crap, like people giving crappy product reviews on Amazon because there was a problem with the shipping. Morons.

If you go out to the shopping areas with all the crafts and junk, any time someone tells you a price, offer half. You've got to seriously DFWM lowball them. Have whoever is going with you play good cop/bad cop with the offers, come up and when you're making the offer have them say you shouldn't pay that much for it. Works like a charm. Got a great deal on what ended up being the mexican blankets I used at seat covers on my '57 Bel-Air in Playa del Carmen using this method. I think they wanted 40 each at first, and I ended up getting 2 for 30. Walk away and come back if they won't go down. A lot of them will take your offer on the spot if you start to leave. Of course results will vary depending on the place. This won't work in the real shops, just the flea market area.

Never been on a cruise, but is a room guy like a bathroom attendant, or ?

You can also tell quite about about the poster of the review after reading it. I immediately dismiss reviews, good or bad, if they misspell things and use poor grammar.
