I have bites all over my feet and ankles, and I never went outside without socks. Crafty bastards. The bites have been there for 3 weeks and they still itch at times. The finger nail polish thing really isn't effective once you have the bites. They don't burrow. They make little tubular holes in your skin and their saliva is what causes the sore and the itching. Benadryl and other creams are the best thing, but don't expect a miracle. I actually got some prescription stuff when I went to my foot doctor last week for a fractured foot. Anyway, if you shower right after being in tall grass, you can knock most of them off before they do their damage. Once you have spots, you're screwed.

I spread it out through the whole yard every 6 months. No ant piles, no chiggers. I am also lucky because none of my neighbors have dogs. No fleas.

Prevention is easy if you make a habit of it. I have dusted my shoes and ankles with sulpher powder before and it worked great. Right after I mow, I always take a shower and rinse from the top going down as hot as I can stand it. This time I didn't do those things, plus I sat on the ground so I am paying for it. When I was a kid I used to get them so bad around my ankles and balls, my ankles were bloody from scratching. I could not stop scratching my balls. Bad enough when you are an adult, but you can't hardly make a kid not scratch when he needs to...in public.

Squeeze the bite until the head pops and use a q tip to saturate it with hydrogen peroxide. Best method I've found and you won't scar from it.

I use Bayer yard spray to keep chiggers and ticks at bay.

If you keep your grass mowed short you shouldn't have them in your yard. They take to long grass and weeds. I wouldn't give credit to a product in your mowed lawn.

We have tall grass and weeds in the greenbelt behind our place, and we've been hanging back there a lot. I want to kill the bastards, but I don't want to kill any of the beneficial bugs, or take any chance of harming or running off the birds and other wildlife we have back there.

I used sulfur powder when we owned our land. The only thing that kills the itch is scratching until you bleed. Nail polish doesn't work because they are already embedded in the skin and a microscopic amount of air will all a microscopic son of a bitch to survive.

The bath with Clorox works temporarily, but the itch comes back. I hate those little bastards. Dealt with them for 5 years until we decided to sell out place.

The worst I got was hog hunting, because we had to walk through a field with 5' tall grass. Didn't even know what they were prior to that. To top it off, while sitting in a tree stand, I got tuned up by a group of fire ants, so as the clothes came off, the areas I didn't hit with "Off" got saturated with chiggers. Had about a dozen ticks from that one as well.

They don't burrow in the skin! They walk around drinking your skin milkshake.. If you look closely you can see them moving around.

They actually don't burrow into or live in your skin. And I wish scratching until you bleed would stop the itching. My bites have been scratched, scabbed over, rescratched, scabbed over again, and so on for 3 weeks now. They are finally not itching much at all.
