Begging/panhandling with kids.

Stopped for gas at QT, after dinner in Lake Worth. Guy walks over with a kid probably 7-8 years old. Says "hey bud you have cash? We are out of gas". I explained that very few people carry cash anymore.

I really wanted to let him know that "bumming" with a child is completely uncalled for but decided making a scene in front of his child would be just as bad as his tactics. So for the law enforcement guys. How do you handle people panhandling using their kids for the sympathy effect?

Holy shit I saw something similar today. A whole family (dad, mom, two daughters) standing on a corner with the dad holding a sign that said "homeless". I'm amazed at how often I'm surprised at the depths humanity will sink to.

It's illegal to panhandle. If you see them on the corner, they'll be keeping an eye out for a squad car. Because when they spot one they'll start walking the other way. If they don't move then the officer will either tell them to GTFO or get his info and run him. If he has anything then that person goes to jail.

If it was me... I'd tell the Dad to pack his shit and go find a shelter with the kids. If he wanted to be stupid then I'd run his shit and see if I could get anything on him. If he had anything I'd take him in, then call CPS or whatever you do for the kid. Unless they had an actual home, then I'd take him home... but it's all depending on what the departments protocol is for that.

I'm in tn, I see Mexicans with kids at wal mart bumming. Sometimes it's the husband and wife, each with kids. Beats working I guess

There was a woman with a baby doing this at a Plano Walmart a few months ago. I was both sympathetic & appalled at the same time.

I had a guy send his kid to me to beg. Little niglet kid comes up while I am pumping gas and obviously has done this before. Has no game. Just coarse. He is maybe 10, eating a fresh Slushee and has a mean look on his face. "Hey, we ran outa gas. Can you give us some money?"

I asked him where his parents were and he points to his Dad over across the street pestering someone else. I told him to get lost.

Last year, I saw a family parked at a closed down bank begging for gas money for probably 2 months straight. I'm pretty sure the generosity of others filled their tank several times over.

I had a few crackers give me sob stories about their wife being in the hospital, they just got out and ran out of gas.

I had a kid ask me for gas money once. I gave him a few bucks and he actually put gas in his car. On the other hand, I got scammed in my own front yard by some shitbags in an S10. Their truck "died" in front of my place and was out of gas, me being Mr Nice Guy, I got a can and put a gallon or two in. Their truck fired up on the first crank and the gauge was over a half. No telling how much gas the little fuckers scammed out of the street. Got to give them credit for ingenuity, I live in the country, so every house has a riding mower.

I've had a couple of people ask me for gas in the past. I now ask them to let me see the gas guage. I'm willling to help. There are lots of bums out there that won't work but the sad reality is that the economy still sucks balls and number of people in poverty is growing in this country...

The weirdest one I've seen was a couple of years ago. I got out of my old 99 and this guy in a truck next me launches into a VERY loud conversation on his phone about how he left his wallet at work. It was obvious he wasn't talking to anyone. Strangely enough the call ended right as I got back out of my car to put the nozzle back on the pump and that's when he started repeating the sob story to me. I told him it wasn't in my budget to buy him gas and left.

that lady was making the rounds. she was at the allen walmart off exchange and 75 a while back. girlfriends mom saw her at a walmart in plano a day or two later when i saw her. described her as the same woman i saw.
