That motherfucker had a load of ammo if I remember correctly. I would be very aware of where I was if I was loaded down with any type of guns or ammo. I think he was looking to score big and then report a high jacking. It happens more then you think.
      Whos your Daddy?

What a moron. Any responsible gun owner that lives in a bordering state to Mexico knows it's illegal to take guns/ammo down there. I'm tired of hearing all of these bullshit "I made an honest mistake" stories about crossing into Mexico and getting busted. Fuck him. I guess they're going to trump up the whole "oh woe is me, he's United States Marine Corps, oorah, give him some sympathy. Fuck him. I give zero fucks about anyone that gets busted doing this. Guess he won't be doing that again.

They showed the turn around during a news story a few days ago. The area is under construction and all they had was a street sign (what is that, 16" wide x 24" tall) on the ground leaning up against a concrete barrier that says "USA" with a u turn arrow. Thats in the center median and he was in the far right lane (4-5 lanes wide iirc).

They've since replaced it with a flashing portable sign.

While I agree it was still dumb on his part and he should have figured out a way to turn around this political BS is out of hand...he should have been back home long ago...

Why? His entire job hinges around attention to detail and being able to solve problems to get a job done (If he's in a supervisory position.)

He's actually in IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) now if I remember correctly, not active duty. Which basically means he can be called back up for active duty, though it is not very likely. But for all intents and purposes, he has gotten his DD214 (release from active duty) and just has to ride out IRR until he hits the 8 year mark (from initial enlistment).

Many people may not realize that when you enlist you are actually making an initial 8 year commitment. You serve your active duty time (2-4 years typically) then the rest of the 8 years you are on IRR, and subject to recall, but likely will never be. You do not have a military ID, nor most of he active duty benefits at that point. It's a step below reserves, where you do your monthly weekend. They typically will only be subjected to an annual muster, at most. When I got out, they didn't even do that. Although that was between the first gulf war, and 9/11.

I read an article where his mom said she received notification for a muster drill recently, he's been out for at least a year.

Yeah, I remember seeing that too, and figured the same.

I'm familiar. I just made the assumption that he was active duty given the proximity of where he crossed and everyone going on and on about him being a marine. I didn't see where him being a Marine mattered in the first place. Now that you say he's out, it's seeming more like this may be a sensationalist scenario about how some horrible thing is happening to military members/vets, hoping to stir up an emotional reaction.

Came across an article regarding this Marine who's still in a Mexican jail. Damn shame for a stupid mistake on his part.

While Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was living on a base and eating MREs in Afghanistan and earning a battlefield promotion, his paychecks from Uncle Sam were piling up in the bank. Now Tahmooressi languishes in a Mexican prison, plagued by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. And the $65,000 he saved in the service of his nation is gone, according to his mother.

Am I the only one who feels hypocritical for wanting Mexico to ease up on these things, when I'm rallying for stricter border control and punishment for crossing illegally - for Mexicans??

Of course, US citizens are not going over in droves to live either.

I'm just not sure I believe you accidentally cross the border. I've never crossed the US/Mexico border - but plenty others in plenty of other countries and there was never any doubt - and they were a lot less...fancy than the ones I see in pictures for US/Mexico.

Do I feel sorry for them either way? Sure. I also think that it is probably relatively rare compared to how we're being invaded - they could just let it go.

I tried to cross while in Big Bend but after 6 hours of hiking we gave up. Gave me respect for how hard it is to do that illegal act.

Too bad Obama's foreign relations skills are lacking.

They damn sure don't go through big bend. They cross through further south.

You shouldn't feel hypocritical. Mexican troops, armed with Humvees and attack choppers, frequently fly into and travel into the US. Know what we don't do? Lock them up
