I bet if you explained to them what's going on, they'd let you turn around across the border. People aren't as unreasonable as you'd think.

However, if you think the US cops aren't going to check you out with a fine toothed comb you're fucking crazy. Better make sure your guns are legit!

They're told not to do it again and then sent back to Mexico

I'm surprised the media went the sympathetic route instead of making the title "Heavily armed U.S. Marine with PTSD invades Mexico".

The Mexican Army is not reasonable at all, especially to a trained soldier carrying weapons into their country. A little advertised problem our military has is inadvertently training soldiers for gangs and cartels. Lots of young hispanics go through basic and infantry training and then take their skills across the border. Especially Marines and especially at that specific border crossing since it's next to their boot camp.

From Mexico's perspective he's an elite soldier with extensive combat experience that is fairly well armed. He may have been recruited to work for one of the cartels against the Mexican government as a commander.

I would've stopped on the US side and tried to come up with a solution before crossing the border, if they couldn't figure it out on this side, maybe they'd let him turn his ass around on the other side. /shrug

Ignorance does not equate to innocence. He left the US, he fucked up, it's on him, whether he had the intent to break the law or not, he did. Think about it like a DUI - You either break the law or you don't. He did.

But yeah, bombing seems like a totally logical response to some idiot jarhead breaking the law...

It is pretty damn evident. The last time I went to Mexico through California, there was a helluva line, and a lot of indicators that clued you into something happening. The guy sounds like a dumbass.

They were talking about this on 740am ktrh last week, Matt Patrick show I think. He had the mom on for an interview and it sounds like he genuinely just made a mistake and they would not let him turnaround and go back. I want to say they played the 911 call on the radio as well and I fully believe his story. It's just a damn shame that our government cares about a bunch of kidnapped girls from another country, in another country, then one of our own people that they've invested a lot of time and money into training that is just south of our border.

I lived in El Paso for three years and was constantly concerned about accidentally crossing. After talking to a few fed buddies, they advised if I couldn't turn around (e.g. bridge), just park that motherfucker and brave the possible ticket but never cross.

This same thing happened to a truck driver a couple of yeara ago, he was also looking for a turn around, I think he was locked up for like 6 months

Right, and they could say "Oh sure, come on through. No problemo (jejejeje)!" then bend you over backwards once you cross.
