A 19-year-old man caused a three-car crash when he fainted while holding his breath as he drove through a tunnel northwest of Portland, Oregon State Police said. Daniel J. Calhon's 1990 Toyota Camry drifted across the centerline and crashed head-on with a Ford Explorer. State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings told The Oregonian newspaper investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. "It is odd," he said.

How the hell did they know he was holding his breath? Did he actually tell them? If so, he's got two nominee chances for the award.

Is it even possible to faint when holding your own breath? I wouldn't think so.

I don't think so, your body will force you to breathe.

Have you guys never played the "pass-out" game?

Granted, when I was taught that as a kid it involved hyperventilating yourself first, then holding your breath and straining like when you're pushing out a big shit.

I was reading another article on this last night that said the travel time through the tunnel is only ten seconds. LOL, wtf.

I wonder if the driver was claustrophobic? I know my wife's grandmother is, and tunnels, elevators, etc will make her pass out if we are in them very long, or she gets worked up.

The article went on to mention something about superstition, like holding your breath driving past a cemetery. Either way, this guy now has a lot of serious charges under his belt all for being a moron.
