  • Want to track down a vehicle from 50 years ago...help needed

Long story short My grandfather whom I never knew owned Lambert Fence company, Lambert grocery off of i20 in Canton, and also had some restaurants at some point in history out there. Well today going through some of my recently passed grandmothers things(to make it a short story) I came across this photo and learned some things I never knew. He also had a wrecker and auto service shop. I know the service shop used to be on highway 64 and the building is still there. Would anyone happen to have specific information of the local area around canton be from canton or know people from canton? Lamberts were well known in the small town 30-50 years ago.
I would like to find and purchase this!

This is all I have to go by.

Cool photo...the odds that truck is still in existence and not crushed/recycled is closer to none than slim. Good luck with your search though.

I am going to try even though i know odds are against me!

TO start with what year make model do you guys think that truck is? If I can determine that then would like to maybe try to find where he bought it by using his name and make model in historical records or even carfax? Do they backdate things? Then try to get vin that way and track from there

Exactly what I was thinking. Still worth a look though. Would be really cool if you found it, and you never can tell. Shit, a couple of years ago I tracked down the Chinook my dad was a crew chief on in Vietnam, and it is still in service in Canada. I'd love to find my old '69 Charger, but all I have is the plate number from when I owned it in 1999.

Carfax doesn't go beyond the early 80's iirc.

I know its a needle in a haystack but people succeed in ventures like these all the time! Have to try!

You oughta drive down and talk to the old man that owns the Chevy dealership there in Canton. Great guy, his name slips me and it's on the tip of my tongue but i cant for the life of me remember it. We bought 6 vehicles from him over the past 20 years. He owns all that land the first monday trade days is located and half of the town of canton. I bet he might know something.....

My grandfather and him were really good friends! Found an ad in old newspaper of my grandfathers fence company that says collect calls anytime day or night for free fence bids! That is where that all started!

That's a '52, '53, MAYBE a '54 Chevy 5 window pickup. If there was a better picture of the whole truck I could narrow the year model down.

Thats the only picture in existance of it unfortunately.

Anyone know how swapping titles worked back then? Vin #'s even around? Didnt things have to be filed to be transferred?

Problem with those trucks is, they used the engine number as the VIN, and if it had the engine changed at any point, you could run into a dead end.
