  • Need help with tracking number. May have been scammed...

Ok. I'll give full details if this pans out as a true scam.

Guy gave me tracking info for a package. But didn't tell me the shipper. Anybody know who's tracking number this would be?

    VF 775 589 907

I tried usps, ups, and fed ex. No go.

After he gave me the number the dude claimed he was leaving the country on a cruise and stopped responding. Convenient huh. I've never received the package and it's been 8 days since I payed him. I will disclose all info if this turns out to be a scam. I know some of you guys on this board can make his life a living hell. Lol

Usually the term "leaving the country on a cruise" means you done got scammed.

Unless its an overseas seller using a different carrier and you have already tried that tracking number, its likely fake. My hong kong sellers use HK Post, and my spanish ones use Correos, and both have unique tracking numbers.

That tracking number is USPS and means it was insured. You can not track from that number, its USPS internal only. There is a much longer number that will start with a 9 that you need.

Problem I have noticed with USPS is when you insure a package for over $300 that it never seems to arrive. You can see it in the clerks eyes. "Yeah I need this insured for $400." and their eyes get all big and they look intently at the package. I am sure quite a few just go ahead and take it and don't care because its insured..... or because they suck.

Anyway if you go down to the post office I believe they can track it there using that number.

What info do you have on him? You can PM info if you want.

I am sure nobody needs to be tazed. Ebay has 100% protection as does PayPal. Its just an insured USPS number. Reading up on it I guess they do not issue a tracking number for insured mail which seems counter intuitive. But just call your local office with that number and they can track it, or so some say online.

BTW, there should be a "US" at the end of that number you posted.

I just received a notice that a parcel was attempted to be delivered via e-mail, looks like a scam or something, from new.machine@snet.net.... weird.

you need to wait a little longer...do you know how many tracking numbers never fucking work? I know I have had 2 numbers just in the past 6 months not show anything then all of a sudden the package is on my front door step. I think USPS is probably the worst as far as tracking numbers go

OK, this just took an interesting turn. I'd finally had enough and sent him a private message on the message board this transaction was arranged on (rctech.net).

I informed him that I hadn't seen the package nor a refund for the items and that I'd be contacting his employer and his apartment complex if I didn't have either item by this coming Monday at the end of the business day. I told him I felt scammed and wasn't going to take it lightly if I was indeed lied to.

                          He suddenly replies with:

"OK first don't threaten me. I'll ship the items out this coming Thursday when I get back"

So.....looks like the tracking number bit was fake. The items were never shipped.

OK dfwmustangs....where do we go from here?

Sounds like a guy who needs to be contacted by a bunch of moving companies. After you get your shit though.
