  • Green Tag Inspection Help?

I'm trying to get my 95 Lightning registered in Texas and didn't realize that it has to be inspected first. The title office said it had to be a "green tag" inspection. Also, I need a place that doesn't mind dark window tint and the lack of catalytic converters. If anyone could PM me some info about how to handle this I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks!

No one will help you skirt the system. Get your equipment fixed within the state's prescribed regs and all will be good.

As stated above, you will need to make it legal.

Then, while getting the normal TX inspection, ask them for the "green sheet." It's actually just a white print out. Basically it verifies the VIN and they charge you a buck.

Luckily, since you are bringing it in from out of state you will pay a $90 fee instead of 6.25% of the presumptive value when you register it.

Do a Google search fro Dan Bishop, he can hook ya up on an inspection. Works at General Engines, GE for short.

95 is a sniffer test, so no way is it going to pass with no cats on it. Just get a couple of high flows and weld them in. Home Alone is correct on the green sheet.

I had to put high flow cats on my 93L to get it to pass and it barely made it by- about $260 is what it cost for the cats and install.

Are you a cop? You know you have to say "yes" if you're a cop.

They made me pay the full tax on the green car when I registered it after getting it in Indy.

You bought it and brought it.

Sounds like he already owns it and is moving here and needs it registered.

No I bought it and brought it to Texas so I'll have to pay sales tax too. Does anyone know if high flow cats will change the sound? I really like the way it is now.

Next year when it's 20 years old will I have to go through this again or is that safety inspection only at 20 plus years?

                        safety/visual only starts at 25yrs

If you have an address in a non-emissions county, you might get away with getting a green sheet out in the sticks, but in the DFW area, you're going to have to grease some palms most likely

Buy a stock mid pipe and get used to swapping it out every year. Hell, most shops will fail you for balding tires these days.
