I love this bimmer. But I miss having a truck. I want a 4x4. But i also want a lightning esque truck. Just curious what y'all would go for as far as those types of trucks. I was asked to trade a cammed and exhaust 04 rumble bee. Not a fan of dodges but it looked decent. Would love a gen 1 lightning. I'm really limited due to not have 10+k to throw around.

Depending on its use I would go gen 2 lightning. They are a blast to drive and easy to pep up a bit with just a few boltons. Not to mention the blower wine is awesome!Comment

My dad did a lot of development and production work on the Regency RST trucks from '04-06. I always really liked these. They have special interiors, plus intake and exhaust changes that bump up the power. And I don't know what exhaust they used, but they sounded GREAT. They were only available with the 4.8/5-speed at first, but later versions had the 5.3/auto.
They're not exactly "fast" like the Lightnings - maybe 14s but more likely 15s. I think the GM trucks from this time period are FAR better looking than the Fords. One other thing to think about is the supercharged 5.4s are getting older and more prone to breakage, and are unbelievably expensive when they do. These trucks are already LS powered and ready for whatever you want to throw at them. They're also limited editions and already have a small but strong following.
Go read road tests from the period. EVERYONE talks about how much fun they are to drive. I would take one hands-down over a Lightning. They made refinements during the production run, so I would look for a later one rather than an earlier one.
This is the white/orange 'Jon Moss' edition, but the rest were either red/black stripes or black/red stripes.
